The Role:

Pachama is looking for an Assistant Controller to reinforce the Accounting team in executing on several high-priority initiatives to help the Company get to the next level. The team is focused on getting settled in NetSuite, undergoing an initial financial statement audit, and supporting international expansion by navigating new contracts products, as well as alternate financing structures, which are integral to scaling our reforestation and conservation efforts worldwide.
The ideal candidate has a demonstrated interest in climate tech and a combination of both audit and industry experience. Furthermore, this candidate has management experience but also feels comfortable rolling up their sleeves as an individual contributor.

Location:

This role is remote within the United States/International. However, they must be within 3 hours of Pacific time given cross-functional communication responsibilities. No regular travel is required or expected.

The company has served climate leaders such as Salesforce, Nespresso, Shopify and Boston Consulting Group and is backed by investors including Lowercarbon Capital, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Future Positive, Amazon Climate Pledge Fund, Y Combinator and Deutsche Telekom.

What You Will Help Us With:

  • Owning the Month-End Close process: Translating subsidiary reporting packages and preparing consolidated financial statements, reviewing balance sheet reconciliations, as well as performing income statement flux and gross profit analysis.
  • Managing day-to-day Operations: Performing daily cash and inventory reconciliation, invoicing sales and paying bills, as well as managing our credit card and expense policy.
  • Supporting Financial Statement Audits: Documenting policies processes, designing implementing internal controls, as well as ensuring our financials comply with US GAAP.
  • Reviewing Contracts Performing Research: Preparing technical memos to document accounting and tax implications of new contracts and implementing them cross-functionally.
  • Aiding in Automation: While we just completed our ERP implementation (QBONetSuite), there’s always room for optimization, as well as future configuration anticipated related to new products, contracts or software integrations (procurement, close management etc).

Experience & Skills We're Looking For:

  • 8-10 years progressive accounting experience, with a mix of both audit and industry required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required, Master’s degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Active CPA license required.
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP required, specifically ASC 330 (Inventory), 606 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers) and 842 (Leases).
  • Proficiency in quickly analyzing contracts and determining accounting implications, including performing research as necessary and documenting conclusions accordingly.
  • Quick learner with strong attention to detail, able to independently identify and resolve issues by applying critical thinking to complex accounting issues.
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and leverage technology to build scalable processes, gain efficiencies, and streamline accounting operations.
  • Effective time and project management skills; ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks in order to meet team and company goals.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate cross-functionally, with exceptional written and oral communication skills to succeed in an a-sync environment.
  • Background with inter-company transactions, eliminations and consolidations required, FX and currency translation adjustments experience preferred.
  • Experience with NetSuite required, as well as Salesforce, Bill.com, Ramp, Notion preferred.
