Senior PHP Software Engineer - US Integrations Team Lead

Are you passionate about building real-world integrations that power high-impact cybersecurity workflows? Do you thrive at the intersection of APIs, data transformation, and platform reliability? Nucleus Security is seeking an experienced Integrations Engineer to join our Connectors team and help expand our ecosystem of data integrations with the world’s leading security tools—from Tenable.io to Qualys, Rapid7, and beyond.
This role is ideal for a technically strong PHP developer with a solid background in APIs, leadership-level experience in engineering environments, and a passion for building clean, scalable, and maintainable integration code. US Citizenship Required for this role.

About Nucleus Security
Nucleus Security is transforming how security and development teams manage vulnerabilities at scale. Our platform unifies vulnerability data across scanners and environments, enabling organizations to prioritize and remediate vulnerabilities efficiently. Through our integrations, we empower customers to ingest data from their existing tools with minimal setup and maximum reliability. As our ecosystem continues to expand, the integrations team plays a critical role in scaling our platform’s reach and value.

Role Overview
As an Integrations Engineer, you’ll be a core contributor to our integrations infrastructure. Your work will focus on developing and enhancing integrations that ingest data from external APIs, normalize it into our platform's schema, and ensure end-to-end reliability across different vendor products.

You’ll work closely with engineering leadership, product management, and QA to ensure every integration is performant, scalable, and easy to support. You’ll also contribute to internal standards and tooling that improve how we test, release, and maintain integrations over time.
This is a hands-on engineering role with a strong leadership expectation—you’ll be trusted to lead major integration efforts, define best practices, and mentor others on the team.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and maintain integrations for ingesting vulnerability and asset data from major security platforms (e.g., Tenable.io, Wiz, Qualys, Rapid7, and more).

  • Work directly with external REST APIs to extract, normalize, and transform data into platform-ready formats.
  • Lead the architecture and design of the new connectors and contribute to improving our internal connector framework.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, QA, support, and platform engineering to ensure integrations are stable, scalable, and supportable.
  • Build tooling and automation to support connector testing, validation, and CI/CD deployment.
  • Maintain best practices for versioning, release cadence, and backwards compatibility.
  • Support QA and customer support teams in diagnosing and resolving connector-related issues.
  • Take ownership of reliability and observability in connector infrastructure (logging, metrics, error handling, etc.).

What You Need to Excel in This Role

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • 2+ years of technical leadership experience.
  • Strong experience with PHP including modern PHP practices, Composer, PSR standards.
  • Deep understanding of working with REST APIs—authentication, pagination, rate-limiting, data normalization.
  • Experience writing testable code, creating unit/integration tests, and mocking external APIs to validate workflows in a testing environment.
  • Background in data transformation or ETL-style workflows.
  • Proven ability to lead technical efforts or projects from design through release.
  • Experience with version control systems (preferably Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Comfortable working in Linux-based environments.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, especially when dealing with external systems and APIs.
  • US Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, cyber security, computer engineering or similar.
  • Experience with the Zend Framework ecosystem, especially Laminas Framework.
  • Experience working with security tools such as Tenable, Wiz, Qualys, or Rapid7.
  • Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker.
  • Experience working with relational databases (SingleStore/MEMSQL a bonus)
  • Experience with ExtJS or React.
  • Experience with Python.
  • Background following Agile/Scrum methodologies in a professional setting
  • Experience maintaining applications on Linux platforms in cloud environments

Why You Should Be Excited

• Work on a truly unique solution that’s defining a market and making an actual impact.
• Work for a financially secure start-up with a rapidly expanding enterprise customer base.
• We’re biased, but you will get to work with one of the best teams in security. We have a lot to get done and we work extremely hard, but we also laugh and have fun in the process.
• Outstanding benefits - flexible PTO, generous 401k company contribution (not a match, a contribution), education and training budget, 100% company-paid healthcare options, fully remote… just to start.

What began as a practical solution to a complex problem for a pair of Department of Defense security experts has evolved into a leading force in the cybersecurity landscape. Nucleus Security was born from the firsthand experience of its founders, Steve Carter and Scott Kuffer, who were grappling with the unwieldy and inefficient nature of manual vulnerability management. They envisioned a more streamlined, automated, and intelligent way for organizations to handle the relentless onslaught of security threats. This vision materialized into a platform designed by practitioners, for practitioners, with the core mission of transforming how enterprises and government agencies prioritize and mitigate risks at scale.

The journey started with a clear goal: to build a centralized hub that could unify disparate vulnerability data, automate cumbersome workflows, and ultimately empower security teams to act faster and more decisively. Early on, the focus was on creating a tool that could make sense of the chaotic influx of information from various security scanners and tools. This commitment to unification and automation quickly resonated with organizations struggling to keep pace with the evolving threat landscape. Today, major corporations like Motorola, Paychex, and Mastercard rely on Nucleus to bring clarity and control to their vulnerability management programs. The platform's ability to integrate with over 160 security and business tools allows it to serve as a single source of truth, breaking down data silos and providing a comprehensive view of an organization's risk posture. This success has not gone unnoticed, with Nucleus being recognized on the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 as one of the fastest-growing companies in North America, a testament to its innovative approach and the critical need it addresses in the market.
