You will be working on Nesto Cloud, Canada’s most advanced cloud platform, delivering end-to-end technology solutions for lenders in the digital age.

As aSenior Data Engineer you will join our Data Operations team. You will be a key architect and owner of our cloud-based data infrastructure, responsible for designing, building, and optimizing pipelines that manage the full mortgage lifecycle—from initial application to funding and servicing.

In this role, you will bridge the gap between legacy systems and modern cloud maturity, ensuring our data is scalable, secure, and highly available for critical business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
Data Pipeline & Infrastructure Engineering

  • Pipeline Development: Design and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines in Azure and GCP using Azure Data Factory, Fabric, dbt,Fivetran, SSIS, and other solutions.
  • Database Management: Optimize and manage structured and unstructured data across SQL Server, Azure SQL, Data Lakes, and BigQuery.
  • Modernization: Lead the migration of data systems from IaaS (on-prem SQL Server) to PaaS/SaaS environments.

BI & Reporting Enablement

  • Power BI Administration: Take ownership of the Power BI environment, including workspace administration, security, and capacity management.
  • Data Modeling: Build and maintain robust data models optimized for high-performance Power BI dashboards and SSRS reports.

Operations & Governance

  • Security & Compliance: Implement enterprise-grade data security, privacy standards, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Automation: Proactively identify opportunities to automate workflows and reduce manual "toil."
  • Observability: Build comprehensive monitoring and alerting for data pipelines to minimize downtime and ensure data reliability.

Documentation: Maintain high-quality documentation of data lineage, system architectures, and process flows.


Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Expertise

  • Experience: 5–10 years of professional data engineering experience, preferably within Financial Services or FinTech.
  • SQL & Programming: Expert-level SQL optimization skills and proficiency in Python for scripting and data manipulation.
  • Microsoft Data Stack: Deep hands-on experience with SQL Server (DBA-level knowledge), SSIS, SSRS, Azure Data Factory, and Synapse.
  • Cloud & Modern Tools: Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery) and modern transformation tools like dbt.
  • SDLC: Strong knowledge of Git-based workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.

Education & Certifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Certifications: Azure or GCP Data Engineering certifications (e.g., Azure Data Engineer Associate) are a significant plus.

Time Zone: Must be located in or able to work consistently within the EST time zone (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM) to ensure synchronized collaboration with our national teams.
