THE OPPORTUNITY:

MHN is seeking a Principal Healthcare Data Product Engineer to lead the design and development of data enrichment processes, data marts, and data pipelines driving our enterprise data warehouse and our products directly supporting the teams delivering care in our partner practices. This role centers on technical data product development and requires a seasoned healthcare data product engineering expert with a demonstrated ability to drive high-impact outcomes as an individual contributor.

This role will own complex data product initiatives supporting our operations, analytics, and clinical, operational and financial reporting. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in healthcare data and is comfortable partnering closely with product and business teams to deliver scalable, data-driven solutions.

  • Remote/Hybrid Schedule: This role follows a hybrid work model. Candidates within 50 miles of Chicago are expected to work onsite two days per week (Monday and Tuesday) and remotely three days per week. Candidates outside of the 50-mile radius are eligible for fully remote work.

WHAT YOU CAN LOOK FORWARD TO

  • Own the architecture, design, and lifecycle of scalable data marts and data products aligned to key business domains
  • Partner with product, analytics, and business leaders to shape ambiguous problem spaces, refine requirements, and validate solutions through rapid prototyping and proofs of concept
  • Apply deep expertise in healthcare and value-based care data to architect high-quality, scalable data product solutions across clinical and financial domains
  • Define and standardize data product engineering best practices, including tooling, architecture patterns, and development methodologies
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship, elevating the capabilities of data product engineers through guidance, code reviews, and architectural oversight
  • Lead enterprise data initiatives supporting clinical, billing, coding, claims, and revenue cycle workflows, ensuring alignment with VBC models and business outcomes
  • Serve as a strategic advisor on enterprise data platform architecture, influencing design decisions across all data product solutions
  • Drive data governance, master data management (MDM), and data quality standards to ensure consistency, integrity, and regulatory compliance across the ecosystem
  • Balance and optimize scalability, performance, cost, data integrity, and compliance in all architectural and design decisions
  • Act as a principal-level thought partner, influencing cross-functional stakeholders and driving alignment across teams without direct authority

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

    • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience.
    • 8+ years of data product engineering experience, including multiple years operating at a senior level as an individual contributor
    • Deep healthcare data expertise with hands-on experience in data architecture, data warehousing, and engineering across both analytical and operational environments
    • Proven experience designing and delivering data products that support value-based care (VBC) business models across payer and provider functions, including claims, membership, EMR/EHR, clinical, eligibility (EDT), and care management data domains
    • Strong experience building and optimizing enterprise data warehouse solutions, including dimensional modeling, medallion architecture, and scalable data platform design
    • Demonstrated expertise in master data management (MDM), including governance, data standardization, and entity resolution across complex healthcare data ecosystems
    • High proficiency with SQL in a Snowflake environment, dbt, medallion-layer data architecture, modern and legacy data integration patterns (internal and external), and familiarity with the Tuva data model
    • Experience supporting operational, financial, and analytical use cases through high-quality, reliable data products
    • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and experience delivering data products in agile environments
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Experience working in value-based care, Medicaid, and/or safety-net healthcare environments
