Explore your future career 🔭
As an Engineering Director, you are the leader, overseeing the delivery, performance, and people management for the Matching and Sourcing squads, composed of 8-10 product engineers This is a direct leadership role, not a manager-of-managers position, where you will maintain a strategic and product mindset while keeping a love for the software craft. You are in charge of the growth and development of how clients and freelancers connect on Malt. Today, they do so via the AI search (our main staffing flow) and the ATS (enabling independent selection and evaluation of freelancers); tomorrow, why not a full AI experience? You play a crucial role in defining and implementing our technical strategy, driving project timelines, and fostering a high-performing and collaborative engineering environment. This is a hands-on leadership role in which you're shaping the product experience that hundreds of thousands freelancers rely on.
Key responsibilities ✨
Architect the future of AI-native sourcing: Traditional staffing is broken; you will lead the development of the AI-native solution that fixes it. You aren’t just making UI tweaks, you are leveraging AI to build a high-signal, "magic" experience for hundreds of thousands of users across Europe.
Lead Product Delivery: Translate C-level ambition into a high-velocity technical roadmap. You are the guardian of our standards, making the hard calls between shipping "wow" AI features today and maintaining the long-term architectural health of the platform.
Drive Engineering Excellence : As a hands-on leader, you serve as a force multiplier for quality. Through architectural guidance and deep participation in code reviews, you ensure that speed never compromises system stability or elegant design.
Cultivate Product Engineers : Directly lead two high-impact squads by fostering a culture of autonomy. Your mission is to coach developers into Product Engineers problem solvers who understand the "why" behind the code and take extreme ownership of the user outcome.
Drive Operational Excellence: Refine our agile rituals to ensure maximum flow. You thrive on turning complex constraints into clear paths forward, ensuring your squads remain unblocked, focused, and obsessed with delivery.
About you 🧑🚀
- You bring significant experience as a manager who remains rooted in the craft. You stay close to the stack to provide high-signal mentorship through architectural design and complex MRs.
You have moved beyond AI theory. Having built AI agents or integrated LLMs into functional products, you understand the architecture required to scale intelligent engines.
You know that "perfect" is the enemy of "shipped." You excel at balancing market urgency with software integrity, taking full ownership of the delivery lifecycle.
You build environments, not just task lists. You excel at coaching both software and ML engineers to move from a "feature builder" mindset to a "problem solver" reality.
You come from a product-first background. You think first about the "why" and then the "how" and view code as a powerful means to a business end.
You are a natural owner. Whether facing staffing gaps or shifting priorities, you identify the path forward and rally the team to execute without needing a map.
Fluent in English (French is a bonus), you distill complex AI or technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders at every level.
