The Role

Lumen is looking for an experienced manager to bolster and drive our compliance programs. Reporting to the Senior Director Security for GRC and Business Enablement, the information Security Governance Manager will lead a team responsible for ensuring our policies, standards, and related documentation satisfy our external and internal obligations. This role will be expected to provide guidance and make determinations relevant on controls that govern the steps, methods, or procedures within our processes to ensure compliance, consistency, and effectiveness.

The Information Security Governance Manager will lead a team responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing policies, standards, procedures, and related documentation to support Lumen’s compliance, risk management, and regulatory objectives. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, deep knowledge of governance and compliance frameworks, and a passion for clear, effective communication.

The Main Responsibilities

Team Leadership:

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of governance writers responsible for creating and maintaining compliance documentation.
  • Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
  • Documentation Oversight:
  • Oversee the creation, review, and approval of policies, standards, procedures, guidelines, and related documents.
  • Ensure all documentation aligns with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and organizational objectives.
  • Maintain version control and documentation lifecycle management.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
  • Partner with subject matter experts, legal, IT, risk, and business units to gather requirements and ensure documentation accuracy and relevance.
  • Facilitate cross-functional meetings to review and update governance materials.
  • Quality & Compliance Assurance:
  • Ensure all documentation meets internal and external audit standards.
  • Lead periodic reviews and updates of governance documents in response to regulatory changes or organizational needs.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by providing necessary documentation and responding to inquiries.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities to streamline documentation processes and improve clarity, consistency, and accessibility.
  • Implement best practices for document management, including templates, style guides, and approval workflows.

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Business, Information Security, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in policy writing, governance, compliance, or a related field.
  • 8+ years related people manager experience.
  • Strong understanding of industry frameworks and regulations (e.g., NIST, ISO, CMMI, CMMC, FAR, and DFARS) and their impact on organizational documentation.
  • Experience with knowledge management and change managements best practices.
  • Proven track record with training and process implementation.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with document management systems and collaboration tools.
  • Experience in highly regulated industry such as federal contracting, finance, or healthcare
  • Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., CPTC Practitioner Level II, ITIL 4, CMMC RPA, CMMC CCA, CMMC CCP, etc.)

Compensation

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

$129,639 - $172,852 in these states: AL AR AZ FL GA IA ID IN KS KY LA ME MO MS MT ND NE NM OH OK PA SC SD TN UT VT WI WV WY
$136,121 - $181,494 in these states: CO HI MI MN NC NH NV OR RI
$142,603 - $190,137 in these states: AK CA CT DC DE IL MA MD NJ NY TX VA WA
