Lifeline of Ohio coordinates and promotes organ, eye, and tissue donation across Ohio, and we are seeking a Donation Support Services Coordinator - Night Shift to join our team.
A DSS Coordinator organizes and assists with tasks so that donation efforts run smoothly across multiple stakeholders. They provide communication and ensure compliance with all regulating, governing and accepting agencies to facilitate and maximize organ, eye and tissue donation. They work closely with hospital staff, funeral homes, coroners, tissue technicians and organ recovery staff to coordinate the donation process. They ensure all families are educated and aware of the opportunity to pursue organ, eye, and tissue donation.
*This is a full-time, non-exempt, benefits eligible position. Schedule consists of a mix of 12hr and 8hr shifts, which include alternating weekends and some holidays. Only candidates working from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, or South Carolina will be considered at this time.*

Responsibilities:

Referral Initiation:

  1. Obtains and enters patient medical and social information provided by partners
  2. Assures pertinent referral/case information is communicated to appropriate internal and external stakeholders
  3. Communicates with external partners and provides necessary follow-up
  4. Identifies initial suitability for tissue donors
  5. Provides clinical information to Team leads or Administrator on- call
  6. Assesses appropriate state donor registry for registry status or makes contact with appropriate organ procurement organization for designation.
  7. Assists organ recovery team with initial call in organ potential cases (import and heart-beating referrals)

Evaluation:

  1. Documents and evaluates relevant suitability criteria for all potential tissue donors
  2. Understands and applies all internal/ external policies, procedures and standards relevant to donor suitability
  3. Builds positive, productive and professional rapport with tissue processor staff
  4. On-site physical assessments may be required

Authorization:

  1. Consults with internal and external partners in the coordination and authorization and UDRAI process for potential donors
  2. Works with authorizing agent to identify, discuss donation potential
  3. Provides core elements during authorization with donor families
  4. Supports next-of-kin with follow-up as needed
  5. Compiles screening questionnaire per governing agency guidelines
  6. Contacts tissue processors for review and acceptance of donor
  7. Communicates authorization information to both internal and external stakeholders
  8. Documents required information in charting database
  9. Works with Quality and Regulatory Affairs to ensure documentation standards are met and any deviations from policy or protocol are documented

Charge:

  1. Communicates with the coordinators on shift to task out referrals assignments once initial referral is completed
  2. Manages equal individual workload in coordination with the Active Triage Board report in Tableau to ensure all tasks are assigned to individual coordinators and completed in a timely fashion
  3. Completes all “touch base” calls during progression of case and post case follow ups
  4. Determines appropriate approach intervals given case dynamics in accordance with Charge Instructions
  5. Ensures all case checklists are being completed in a timely manner during the progression of the case and in accordance with the individuals tasks for specific assignments
  6. Delivers shift report and receives shift report from the previous shift Charge
Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Certification in a healthcare related field or secondary degree in education, medical or healthcare preferred
  • 2+ years experience working in a call center environment or a relevant combination of the above listed education and experience
  • Able to work night shift hours

  • Commitment and enthusiasm about the organization’s mission and programs
  • Can work effectively in a remote environment, utilizing multiple communication channels
  • Computer literacy with ability to effectively utilize multiple browsers & healthcare applications
  • Ability to understand complex policies and procedures and follow directions accurately
  • Detail-oriented with a critical degree of accuracy regarding data entry
  • Friendly, helpful, and professional demeanor, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work collaboratively with people from various backgrounds
