The National Security Sector within Leidos is seeking a highly skilled Database Developer with strong Microsoft SQL, cloud, and Agile experience to support the Catena program. This role is essential to ensuring data integrity, system performance, and availability in support of mission-critical operations.

In this hands-on position, you will work closely with developers, system engineers, and program stakeholders to architect, optimize, and maintain robust database solutions. You will exercise technical judgment to recommend designs and solutions aligned with customer business objectives, timelines, and resource constraints. This position involves active participation across the software development life cycle, from design and implementation to testing, deployment, and ongoing support.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain relational database schemas, tables, and indexes.
  • Write, optimize, and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and functions.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize database performance to ensure high availability and efficiency.
  • Perform database installation, configuration, upgrades, and patch management for multiple environments.
  • Ensure database security, access control, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Plan for capacity and database growth, ensuring availability, backup, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Collaborate with application developers, analysts, and stakeholders to support business requirements.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment of database changes.
  • Document database standards, designs, procedures, and best practices.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of prior relevant experience or Master’s with 6+ years of experience. Additional years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • US Citizenship; ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance.
  • Proficiency in SQL, including queries, stored procedures, triggers, and optimization.
  • Experience designing and implementing relational database models and schemas.
  • Hands-on experience with RDBMS platforms such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server (preferred), or MySQL.
  • Knowledge of database performance tuning and query optimization techniques.
  • Experience developing and supporting ETL processes and data integration workflows.
  • Familiarity with database security best practices, access control, and compliance requirements.
  • Working knowledge of cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud).
  • Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines for database changes.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and BI/reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of scripting or programming languages (Python, Java, C#, or similar) for database integration.
  • Willingness to engage in the meaning and intent of the Use Cases and the data contained in those Use Cases to proactively inform the evolving normalized data model schema with consistency in design standards.
  • Exposure to containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible).
  • Ability and drive to produce effective documentation and communications across the development team as needed to improve overall execution and usage of DB capabilities along with strong documentation and technical writing skills.

Pay Range $104,650.00 - $189,175.00

Leidos' story begins in 1969 when Dr. J. Robert Beyster, a visionary scientist, founded Science Applications Incorporated (SAI) in La Jolla, San Diego, California. Leidos, as the legal successor to the original SAIC, inherited its pre-2013 stock price and corporate filing history and established its new headquarters in Reston, Virginia. This strategic move allowed Leidos to sharpen its focus on national security, health, and engineering solutions. Another major milestone occurred in August 2016 when Leidos merged with Lockheed Martin's Information Systems & Global Solutions (IS&GS) business, a landmark transaction that created the defense industry's largest IT services provider and significantly expanded Leidos' capabilities and market share.
