About KIND
Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is a global leader in the protection of unaccompanied and separated children who are forcibly displaced from their countries of origin. Launched in 2008, KIND champions a world in which every child’s rights and well-being are protected throughout their journey to safety. Building on its extensive programming and successful model in the United States, KIND is expanding in the Americas and Europe to bring its experience to bear in working with unaccompanied and separated children. Our work focuses on addressing the legal and mental health needs of this population; building strong partnerships and engaging in training and capacity strengthening with governments, NGOs, and the private sector; and advocating for systemic and pragmatic reforms to advance the rights of unaccompanied and separated children.
Position Summary KIND seeks an entrepreneurial, results-oriented Executive Vice President and Chief Program Officer, who is a member of the organization’s executive leadership team and reports to the President, to lead the organization’s Programs Team. The incumbent will supervise a team of functional and regional experts, including the program leadership for our legal, partnerships, and psychosocial work as well as our regional directors in the U.S., Europe, and Latin America. The incumbent will ensure programmatic and regional alignment and lead an evolution of KIND’s strategic and operational programmatic approach to ensure the long-term impact of our work. The Executive Vice President and Chief Program Officer must possess the experience to lead and drive KIND’s presence globally and ensure mission alignment as the organization continues to grow in size and complexity. The incumbent will lead, coach, and support a team of highly seasoned professionals to exceed client, donor, partner, and Board of Directors’ expectations; and serve as an organization-wide strategic advisor and face of KIND’s core programmatic capabilities. KIND offers the successful candidate a challenging position to support its rapidly growing set of global programs. The incumbent will have the opportunity to chart a course that enables KIND to build on its past programmatic work and build a sustainable model for the future that ensures the safety and well-being of some of the most vulnerable children in the world. This is a headquarters position based remotely from Washington, D.C.
