This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Staff Backend Engineer - Grafana Databases, Loki Ingest in United States.
As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will take ownership of the development, operation, and optimization of critical distributed systems for observability databases. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to design, build, and maintain scalable, high-performance systems that support metrics, logs, traces, and profiles at massive scale. This role emphasizes autonomy, ownership, and deep technical expertise, with opportunities to influence product roadmap, mentor colleagues, and contribute to open-source projects. You will work in a remote-first, innovation-driven environment that encourages experimentation, iterative development, and continuous learning. Your work will directly impact both the reliability of cloud services and the success of end-users across industries.
Accountabilities
- Design, build, operate, and maintain scalable, high-performance distributed systems for observability databases such as Grafana Loki, Mimir, Tempo, and Pyroscope.
- Drive projects end-to-end, from ideation through production deployment and operations.
- Participate in technical roadmap planning and actively influence product and engineering decisions.
- Contribute to open-source projects and internal tools that may extend beyond your immediate team’s scope.
- Mentor and support other engineers, participate in design discussions, and maintain high standards for code quality.
- Take part in on-call rotations and ensure reliability, availability, and performance of critical systems.
- Continuously improve internal processes, system architecture, and cloud infrastructure practices.
Requirements
- Strong experience with at least one programming language (Go preferred; Python, C, C++, Rust, or similar also applicable).
- Proven experience delivering projects from concept through deployment in a self-driven manner.
- Familiarity with cloud-based systems and experience running distributed systems at scale.
- Expertise in writing clean, robust, maintainable, and performant software.
- Understanding of microservices architecture and distributed system principles.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills in a remote-first environment.
- Ability to mentor others and contribute to team knowledge and growth.
Bonus Points:
- Experience with Kubernetes and Helm.
- Experience operating Kafka at scale.
- Prior use of Grafana, Prometheus, or similar monitoring tools in operational roles.
- Familiarity with on-call rotations, SRE practices, or infrastructure-as-code.
