Senior Research Engineer, CFD Algorithm Development

As a Senior Research Engineer, you will lead the design and development of cutting-edge Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) algorithms powering advanced AI-driven simulations. You will work at the intersection of physics, machine learning, and high-performance computing to optimize chemical reactor designs and accelerate scientific innovation. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research while building scalable multi-GPU and multi-node solutions. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary experts in AI, engineering, and computational sciences to develop the next generation of differentiable CFD tools that transform real-world applications in energy and materials.

Accountabilities

• Lead the end-to-end development of differentiable CFD solvers for non-isothermal and reactive flows on multi-GPU, multi-node architectures using frameworks such as JAX.
• Design, implement, and containerize scientific software for reproducibility, scalability, and deployment on HPC GPU clusters.
• Develop optimized parallel linear solvers using FFT or matrix decomposition techniques to enhance simulation performance.
• Extend and validate CFD capabilities for complex geometries and boundary conditions, including reactive and non-reactive flow regimes.
• Integrate transport equations for multi-species systems and ensure simulation accuracy through validation against benchmark data.
• Implement gradient-based optimization to refine reactor designs based on defined objective functions.
• Collaborate with AI and data science teams to link catalyst property modeling with reactor-scale optimization.
• Produce comprehensive technical documentation and reports detailing algorithms, performance, and validation results.

Requirements

• PhD or Master’s degree in Computational Physics, Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• At least 3 years of experience (including PhD work) in CFD code development, ideally using GPUs.
• Strong expertise in numerical methods for PDEs, linear algebra, immersed boundary methods, and parallel computing.
• Proven experience building scalable applications using JAX, PyTorch, CUDA, MPI, or similar frameworks.
• Excellent Python programming skills and experience developing scientific software.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple milestones and delivering clear, well-documented results.
• Familiarity with reactive flow modeling, differentiable CFD, or gradient-based optimization is highly desirable.
• Experience with modern development practices: version control, testing, containerization (Docker), and HPC deployment.
