This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Network Virtualization Engineer - DoD in the United States.
In this role, you will support the design, development, and sustainment of advanced network virtualization systems within a high-security defense environment. You will work on mission-critical infrastructure supporting national defense operations, focusing on virtualized network deployment, system optimization, and compliance with DoD cybersecurity standards. This position requires deep technical expertise in VMware technologies, strong analytical capabilities, and a proactive approach to troubleshooting and system performance. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to maintain secure, efficient, and scalable environments supporting key defense programs.
Accountabilities:
- Lead virtualization engineering tasks, including network build-outs, deployments, and integrations within DoD environments.
- Manage VMware administration activities such as patching, remediation, and performance optimization with minimal supervision.
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement long-term solutions for recurring or critical issues.
- Collaborate with system administrators, network engineers, and cybersecurity teams to ensure operational excellence.
- Execute vulnerability remediation and mitigation measures to meet DoD compliance and security requirements.
- Conduct system monitoring, data backup, and recovery to maintain high availability and reliability.
- Document system changes, upgrades, and maintenance actions in accordance with operational standards.
- Support the deployment of new virtual machines and administer virtualization environments using NSX, vSAN, and vSphere.
- Advise leadership and government counterparts on system optimization, performance, and improvement opportunities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; advanced degrees may substitute for experience.
- 10+ years of total IT experience, including 7+ years in network virtualization or related engineering roles.
- At least 1 year of experience in a leadership or management capacity.
- Proficiency with VMware technologies (vSphere, NSX, vSAN) and familiarity with SDDC Manager.
- Strong understanding of network protocols (DNS, HTTP, SMTP, SSL) and firewall configuration.
- Experience with distributed firewalls, load balancing, NAT, and micro-segmentation in NSX environments.
- Skilled in storage design, migration, and optimization using VMware vSAN.
- Experience with Python or PowerShell scripting for automation and system management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to brief technical and non-technical audiences.
- Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (Security+ CE, CySA+, etc.) required.
- Must hold or be eligible for an active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- VMware certifications (VCTA, VCP-DCV, VCAP Design/Deploy, or VCDX-DCV).
- CCNA or JNCIA network certification.
- Experience with VXLAN, Juniper Apstra, VMWare Aria, or RHEL Ansible.
- Knowledge of Missile Defense operations, DoD communication systems, and SELC/SDLC frameworks.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools and Type I encryption devices.
