Backend Engineer (NodeJS) - Remote

We are seeking a skilled Backend Engineer to design and build high-performance APIs and backend systems in a fast-moving, fully remote environment. You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to deliver scalable, reliable, and maintainable backend solutions. The role involves end-to-end ownership of backend services, optimizing system performance, and mentoring junior developers. Ideal candidates are experienced with NodeJS and TypeScript, understand modern system design principles, and are passionate about delivering clean, high-quality code. Accountabilities:

• Build, maintain, and own backend services and RESTful APIs end-to-end using NodeJS and TypeScript.
• Ensure high code quality, performance, and reliability by following best practices in software engineering.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements and deliver impactful features.
• Mentor junior developers and conduct code reviews to uphold engineering standards.
• Optimize database schemas, queries, and caching strategies for performance and scalability.
• Monitor system performance and implement improvements to ensure reliability and responsiveness.
• Take ownership of backend architecture decisions and continuously improve systems design.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of backend engineering experience, ideally in a product-based company.
• Strong hands-on experience with NodeJS and TypeScript.
• Expertise in Express.js and PostgreSQL; strong SQL skills and query optimization.
• Solid understanding of system design principles for scalable, reliable systems.
• Experience with caching tools like Redis or Memcached.
• Proven ability to build and maintain RESTful APIs.
• Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS services such as EC2, ECS, S3, Lambda, SQS) is a plus.
• Strong collaboration, communication skills, and ownership mindset.
• Passion for clean, maintainable, and well-structured code.
