Role Overview

PIC North America, a Genus Company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a highly motivated Genetic Research Scientist to drive genetic progress through breeding program direction, genetic research, and genetic analysis. The Research Scientist will have the opportunity to serve as the genetic expert on new research projects working with diverse teams.

The successful candidate has the ability to work in a culturally diverse, fast-paced environment, work autonomously as well as collaboratively across functional teams, and is able to identify, analyze and solve problems in a self-directed/managed work location.

The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $160,000 USD. The salary provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

You Will

  • Support research initiatives to leverage new and existing technologies to enhance swine genetic improvement programs across multiple traits, populations, and markets
  • Engage in multi-disciplinary teams to investigate and develop solutions which improve pork production
  • Develop and maintain relationships with world-leading institutions specializing in genetic improvement
  • Support investigation opportunities in multi-omic platforms (e.g. Microbiome, Metabolomics, Proteomics, etc.) and emerging analytical techniques including AI, Machine Learning, etc.
  • Develop and implement practical research investigations to develop solutions to address global customer concerns
  • Model impact of research results and genetic improvements in pork production systems
  • Analyze, review, and interpret data for communication with customers
  • Travel approximately 10%, both domestic and international

Requirements

Basic Qualifications: (required)

  • MS Degree in Animal Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of statistical modeling and coding in appropriate software (e.g. BLUPF90, R, ASREML)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Animal Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, or related field
  • Experience with single-step BLUP preferred
  • Experience in High Performance Computing environments and/or cloud computing
