MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT
As a z/VM Systems Programmer Principal, the work you’ll do at GDIT will be impactful to the mission of our customers. You will play a crucial role via the following:
- Support IBM Mainframes
- Plan and perform upgrades to the z/VM OS and ISV products
- Support day-to-day activities and resolve problems on client systems
- Provide support for zLinux guests
- Monitor system performance and implement tuning and capacity planning improvements
- Maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and policies
- Provide support for offsite disaster recovery tests
- Engage with situations that require a high degree of technical complexity and a significant level of customer interface
- Work well in a team environment
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Bring your technology expertise and drive for innovation to GDIT. The z/VM Systems Programmer Principal, must have:
● Education: Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related field
● Experience: 8+ years of related experience
● Required Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of computer architecture concepts such as partitioning, virtual memory, paging,buffers, caching, compilers/interpreter/object/executable-machine code, and external storage systems
- Knowledge of z/VM systems, z/VM management tools, and Velocity software
- Exposure to planning and performing upgrades to z/VM OS and ISV products
- Knowledge of VMSES, REXX, Shared File System (SFS) and Open Edition (Byte File System) required
- Familiarity with TCP/IP, RACF, DirMaint, IBM Operations Manager, Backup and Restore Manager, and Tape Manager
- Experience with session managers and assembler language programs
● Required Skills:
- The ability to manage small groups, lead projects, and coordinate multiple tasks under time and resource constraints
- The ability to analyze complex problems and issues, then propose a well-thought-out practical solution
- The ability to prioritize workloads effectively to meet changing business needs
- Clear and concise communication skills
- Self-motivated and self directed-individual with a positive attitude
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Ability to project a professional image
- Overtime and weekend work occasionally required; some travel necessary
- Provide a 24/7 service on-call to clients
- Must be able to work with staff in geographically diverse locations
● Preferred Technical Skills:
- zLinux experience would be a plus but not required
- OSA, VSWITCH and Dynamic IOCP configuration experience would also be a plus
