Reporter Intern
USA TODAY is offering a paid journalism internship to a college student or recent graduate. This yearlong program is for candidates interested in a career path in news reporting, producing, editing, audience development, social media or visual journalism.

- Duration: 12 months from start date, no later than February 16, 2026
- Hourly Rate: $24.00

What you’ll do:
This is a full-time, yearlong internship embedded in the USA TODAY newsroom. You will spend dedicated time with multiple teams, covering breaking and trending news, politics, and more. You’ll gain hands-on experience in areas like reporting and interviewing, writing headlines, creating social media content, multimedia storytelling, and visual and investigative journalism. There will also be opportunities for training in interviewing, writing, ethics, source development, and open records.
Responsibilities:
This is a full-time position within the USA TODAY newsroom. Duties will vary over the course of the program, but will routinely involve the following:
- Write multiple stories per week, including breaking news, features and event coverage.
- Conduct interviews.
- Research and gather information from various sources.
- Produce multimedia content to support stories.
- Collaborate in brainstorming sessions.
Requirements:
- Enrolled in or recently graduated from a journalism program (junior year or beyond preferred).
- Strong writing, research and fact-checking skills.
- Familiarity with the fundamentals of journalistic writing and ethics.
- Critical thinking, adaptability and attention to detail.
- Facility with AI and automation and experience in using it to enhance the journalism.
- This role requires a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
- Availability for some evening and weekend work.
