About the Job
This editing and writing role is responsible for the production and quality of B2B email newsletters. Their role is to manage curation, writing, editing and partner relationships for assigned newsletters within a given industry/industries, in addition to researching and writing B2B email newsletter publications and original content within an industry. This position involves B2B content across multiple industries but will report into and largely support the FBTH team (Food & Beverage, Travel & Hospitality).
What you'll be doing...
As a newsletter editor, you will be responsible for reader engagement and partner satisfaction for their briefs. You will work with external clients at trade associations, professional societies and corporations, and internal clients within our product marketing and marketing teams.
As a writer, you will be responsible for providing accurate summaries of timely news as well as creating original content that is insightful and positions SmartBrief as an expert in the industry. You will also collaborate with partner trade associations, professional societies and corporations in creating original content.
The editor/writer serves as an expert on these publications and will report directly to the content director for that industry.
- Line edits briefs
- Use online research tools and technology to identify top news for a given audience
- Summarize news articles quickly and accurately using original language
- Creates newsletters and special sends that deliver timely news, a balance of sources and a partner member benefit
- Meets all production deadlines
- Interacts with clients to facilitate partner news, communicate sensitive or urgent news in the newsletter, attend meetings, and respond to content concerns in a timely manner
- Develops and organizes content topic areas and source lists for each given brief
- Conducts research for new publications and create mock-ups for prospective ones
- Contributes original content, typically in article form
- Support content marketing with topic suggestions, line editing and writing (when appropriate)
- Regularly monitors engagement in each newsletter and proactively adjusts content and recommends optimization opportunities
- Attends and reports from industry events as an industry expert (when appropriate)
- Monitors competition in other industry publications
- Manages freelancers and writers’ research and writing
- Assists with training and onboarding new staff and freelancers
- Maintains and updates brief resources, including search and wiki publication guides
- Plans brief coverage when out of the office
- Backs up colleagues when they are out of the office
Experience that will put you ahead of the curve…
- At least 3-5 years of relevant post-grad digital editorial experience, preferably in B2B.
- A bachelor's degree in journalism or other relevant field.
- Proactive attitude to learning about the brand and the industry.
- Strong communication skills, both internally and externally, with the goal of establishing solid relationships with the market.
- Organized, composed, and able to take on a variety of responsibilities.
- Experience with Content Management Systems.
- A strong editor and writer who delivers clean, concise, and factually correct copy on deadline.
- An endless appetite for all things food & travel, but are dynamic and willing to branch out to other topic areas.
- Good judgment as to what works to drive audience impact and engagement.
- You are a strategic thinker with a strong voice and creative packaging ideas.
- A team player who is able and willing to go above and beyond to assist the team in fulfilling their responsibilities.
