Position Overview

We are searching for a proven Senior Director, Internal & External Corporate Communications with a demonstrated track record of progressive internal and external corporate/business communications achievement to work in a fast-paced shared services environment. This is a significant people-focused, results-driven leadership role managing a current team of eight (8) professionals across both Internal & External Communications disciplines. The leadership position partners with 27 Fujifilm subsidiaries in the Americas on corporate communications strategies and activities across industries including healthcare, electronics, industrial, consumer, business innovation, and imaging. This well-established leader reports to the Head of Corporate Communications & Brand at FUJIFILM Holdings America.

Job Description

Responsibilities

The Senior Director, Internal & External Communications, will play a key leadership role in strategizing, developing, and executing a range of progressive internal and external communications programs -- including leadership communications, employee engagement, media relations, public relations, executive visibility/thought leadership, and issues/crisis communications. These communications programs will support the marketing and sales activities of various Fujifilm business units as well as the overall Fujifilm corporate brand in the Americas. The incumbent will actively seek collaboration – especially with the Senior Director, Digital & Brand Management -- to focus, coordinate and leverage as a significant strategic leader of one integrated Corporate Communications function. In addition, the proven leader will be responsible for managing integrated communications projects designed to build, protect and defend the brand and reputation of Fujifilm – driving results for key corporate initiatives among internal and external stakeholders.

Position Responsibilities

As part of Corporate Communications’ overarching strategy and purpose to support corporate and business objectives, the incumbent’s responsibilities will be:

Team Leadership

  • Lead a diverse team of Communications Business Partners and internal & external Communications functional professionals to help achieve business objectives across 27 Fujifilm subsidiaries.
  • Develop and lead the team to oversee all internal and external communications and channels while also managing relationships with key partners and media, ensuring impactful brand campaigns and messaging.
  • Responsible for professional development and strengthening capabilities of internal and external communications team.
  • Develop, execute, and champion best practices, policies, and processes across the team through consistent and thoughtful engagement with internal and external communications team.

Relationship Management

  • Effectively build sustainable relationships across the organization to help achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in engaging with business partners at a strategic level, coaching and counseling them, and influencing leadership thinking in strategic internal and external communications.
  • Develop, execute, and champion best practices, policies, and processes across the team through consistent and thoughtful engagement with internal and external communications team.
  • Influential communicator and engaging storyteller with talent for breaking down complex technical jargon and brand stories into easily digestible content that connects with core audiences, celebrates milestones, and strengthens reputation among key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to be highly effective in a highly-matrixed organization.
  • Actively seek collaboration – especially with Senior Director, Digital & Brand Management -- to focus, coordinate and leverage as a significant strategic leader of one integrated Corporate Communications function.
  • Set and manage business expectations, including developing, implementing and tracking measurements in line with communication activities through monthly and quarterly reporting.
  • Develop relationships with key media to initiate and facilitate Fujifilm executive interviews, product reviews, case studies, etc.

Internal Communications

  • Researches, develops, executes, and manages progressive communications policies and programs that enhance leadership communications and engagement and relations with employees.
  • Delivers internal communications through progressive, engaging media channels, like employee app, podcasts, and multi-media mediums.
  • Manages dissemination of communications to reach defined audiences to meet specific communications programs objectives.
  • Develop and maintain progressive internal communications platforms to ensure understanding and engagement of business strategy and priorities across employee base – including alignment with the company’s brand.
  • Develop and manage internal communications strategies, channels, processes, best practices, and key deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experience with emerging technologies to improve leadership communication and employee engagement – like employee app, podcasts, videos, etc.
  • Ensure internal communications processes and policies are established and adhered to consistently.
  • Lead internal editorial calendar planning on behalf of the America’s region and works closely with FTYO Corporate Communication team, internal team, and business stakeholders.

External Communications

  • Researches, develops, executes, and manages communications policies and programs that enhance external communications and engagement and relations with external stakeholders.
  • Delivers external communications through progressive, engaging media channels in partnership with Senior Director, Digital & Brand Management. Coordinates dissemination of communications to reach defined audiences to meet specific communications programs objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience with emerging technologies to improve external communications engagement with stakeholders – like podcasts and content development.
  • Ensure external communications processes and policies are established and adhered to consistently.
  • Develop, manage, and execute strategic public relations programs and activities to support Fujifilm’s strategic goals that focus on the U.S. market, but also collaborate with global markets (Japan and Europe) to ensure consistent messaging across channels.
  • Act as company spokesperson with media in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Develop relationships with key media to initiate and facilitate Fujifilm executive interviews, product reviews, case studies, etc.
  • Write and edit press releases and other external communications.
  • Develop and coordinate key corporate communications projects employing multiple communication strategies and channels.

Executive Visibility/Thought Leadership

  • Develop and execute a strategic Executive Visibility/Thought Leadership communications program in the Americas.
  • Strategic counsel, planning, development, and execution of Executive Visibility/Thought Leadership communications program.
  • Provide counsel on speaking opportunities, thought leadership positioning and other communications to better position Fujifilm in the Americas.
  • Ensure Executives are prepared for successful communications interactions -- including media training, thought leadership positioning, and messaging points.

Issues/Crisis Communications

  • Develop and execute Issues & Crisis Management Playbook.
  • Strategic counsel, planning, development, and execution of Communications programs regarding issues and crisis situations to protect and defend the Fujifilm brand and reputation.
  • Provide counsel on crisis communication scenarios and serve as primary media contact on all crisis communications issues.
  • Collaborate across functions to develop preparedness plans for challenging issues, reputation, and crisis situations.

Required Skills/Education

  • 20+ years of corporate communications experience is required, with a minimum of 5+ years of leadership experience in life sciences, healthcare or pharma required.
  • An undergraduate degree in Communications/Journalism/Marketing is required, with an advanced degree in Communications or MBA is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in successfully working/collaborating with peers/colleagues in a range of cultures and geographies, with Japan and Europe experience a plus.
  • The demonstrated ability to grasp complex technical concepts for effective communication to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in a shared services organization is highly desirable.
  • Excellent project-planning and project-management skills.
  • Superior organizational skills and high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Travel 15%
