Job Description
The Application Engineer I is a member of the Platform Services team. In this role, you’ll help support and deliver applications used across the organization. You will work closely with project managers, vendors, and other technical teams while learning how applications are designed, deployed, and maintained in both on-premises and cloud environments. This position is ideal for a quick learner who is looking to grow their skills with Microsoft 365 technologies, virtualization concepts, and modern application management.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with business units to understand how they use existing applications and capture basic requirements.
- Support the deployment of new cloud and SaaS applications within Microsoft 365 and other vendor platforms.
- Assist with configuring single sign-on (SSO) and document setup steps and support procedures.
- Help maintain and update software across datacenter and cloud environments, using tools like Intune or SCCM.
- Coordinate with software vendors to support application needs and resolve issues.
- Participate in discussions about improving performance, scalability, and reliability of applications.
- Contribute to team tasks related to application deployment, desktop/virtual desktop engineering, and mobile device management.
- Create operational and support documentation.
- Troubleshoot application-related issues and work with senior engineers to resolve complex problems.
- Learn and apply basic Active Directory or Entra ID concepts, including Conditional Access policies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Exposure to application support, IT systems, or related environments; several years of support experience with some proven examples of diving into engineering skillsets.
- Exposure to Microsoft 365 technologies such as SharePoint Online and Power Platform.
- Willingness to learn about cloud migrations and hybrid environments.
- Ability to manage tasks, stay organized, and work in a fast-paced environment with guidance.
- Strong communication skills and comfort working with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Good understanding of operating systems, servers, databases, and networking concepts.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent practical experience.
Work Environment & Role Expectations
- This position is performed on‑site in an office environment, with regular use of computers and standard office equipment.
- Work involves sustained periods of computer-based tasks, along with occasional in‑person collaboration and meetings.
- The role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to occasional urgent or unplanned tasks, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Flexibility in work hours may occasionally be needed, including overtime or evening/weekend work during peak periods.
