Fieldpiece is hiring a Data Scientist to shape our data capabilities. Reporting to the Chief Innovation Officer, this is an exciting early-stage opportunity to define the core models, frameworks, and methodologies that will drive value from our growing datasets. You’ll collaborate with software engineers, product managers, and stakeholders across the organization to translate business questions into scalable data solutions. The role begins with time series modeling and system performance analytics and has significant room to expand into more advanced AI and ML domains as the platform evolves.

Fieldpiece is a thriving team of innovators - committed to pushing boundaries and celebrating curiosity. We’ve been providing HVACR professionals with rugged, feature-rich tools like meters, manifolds, leak detectors, and more since 1990. Fieldpiece leads the industry in the way we think, work, collaborate, and remain laser-focused on creating products that empower HVACR professionals. If you thrive in an environment where challenges are embraced, ambiguity fuels innovation, and relationships are built on trust and transparency—this is your opportunity.

We offer a hybrid (3 days onsite), flexible work schedule, a kitchen full of snacks to keep you charged throughout the day and a unique, onsite music room with complimentary guitar and piano lessons. Candidates for the Kamas, UT office will also be considered.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to define data model requirements and objectives that align with product and business needs.
  • Design, build, and deploy machine learning and statistical models, with an initial focus on time series forecasting, anomaly detection, and system performance analytics. This is the starting point of our data science journey, with broad opportunities to grow into areas like predictive maintenance, intelligent alerting, and behavioral modeling.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) to understand patterns, identify data quality issues, and uncover product-enhancing insights.
  • Evaluate and apply appropriate modeling techniques (e.g., ARIMA, LSTM, XGBoost, clustering, regression, etc.) for different use cases.
  • Work closely with engineers to integrate models into production systems and digital product workflows.
  • Develop scalable pipelines for data preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, and performance monitoring.
  • Establish and uphold best practices around versioning, validation, experimentation, and reproducibility.
  • Support initiatives that include visualization, dashboarding, and analytics layers that power internal tools or customer-facing experiences.
  • Stay informed on trends in machine learning, data science, and IoT/edge analytics to ensure we remain ahead of the curve.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or applied analytics roles, with a proven ability to take models from initial concept through development, validation, and production deployment. Experience should include working with real-world, imperfect data, collaborating across teams to define meaningful use cases, and iterating on models in live environments with measurable impact.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with ML libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) for prototyping and experimentation.
  • Experience working with IoT data, telemetry systems, or predictive maintenance applications.
  • Solid background in time series analysis, forecasting, and anomaly detection techniques.
  • Skilled in data cleaning, feature engineering, statistical modeling, and evaluation.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern data workflows (e.g., SQL, Snowflake, Airflow, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity and building in iterative, agile environments.
  • Passion for applying data science to real-world problems that create customer and business value.
