The Elsevier Foundational Content team is committed to commissioning content that supports and advances STEM education with high quality and reliable textbooks and encyclopaedias. We work with key leaders in research and education to develop valuable, accessible content to support college and graduate course work for future STEM professionals.

About the internship:

Are you passionate about publishing, the dissemination of knowledge, and supporting science education with evidence-based content grounded in research and real-world data? Join Elsevier’s Foundational Content team as an Acquisitions Editorial Assistant and gain hands on experience with core publishing processes, including proposal development, peer review, author outreach, and contract preparation. You will help shape high impact academic books that serve a globally representative community of researchers and STEM professionals.

This internship is part of the Rising TIDE program. Elsevier created its Rising TIDE internship program to foster inclusion and provide individuals with work experience in the corporate world to develop a pipeline of talent for entry-level individuals for post-graduation opportunities. 

Responsibilities:

  • Learn about Foundational Content product types and customer needs

  • Research a focused signing area and target key textbook topics for prospecting

  • Use inhouse data and analytics tools to identify and contact qualified reviewers and authors, and build pipeline for new textbook projects

  • Utilize in-house AI tools to support aspects of the acquisitions process

  • Support inclusion initiatives in author recruitment

  • Prepare textbook proposals for formal approval

  • Assist in setting up and attending virtual editorial board meetings

  • Network and collaborate with colleagues across content delivery, production, and more

Skills or experiences:

  • A passion for science communication, publishing, and the dissemination of knowledge

  • A demonstrated commitment to inclusion, equity, and belonging

  • Ability to adapt communication style for different audiences

  • Familiarity with MS Office tools, especially MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Strong organizational, time management, communication, and teamwork skills
