Role: Summer 2024 Education Policy Internship

About the organization:
Education Reform Now is a national organization that develops and drives forward bold, new ideas aimed at transforming the American public education system and better serving all students, especially low-income students and students of color.
Education Reform Now publishes original research, white papers, and issue briefs analyzing trends and exploring new, forward-leaning ideas in education. We help shape the education policy narrative through mass media. We publish magazine articles, op-eds, and blog posts, as well as advise federal, state and local officials and community-based organizations on education policy.
About this role:
Are you interested in the world of issue advocacy and policy research? ERN is searching for a self-motivated, high-energy, and organized individual with experience in research and a high comfort level with search engines, web browsers, databases, and common office software.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform background research and assist in drafting of issue briefs and memos on policy focus areas, including: assessments, accountability, public school choice, human capital, and resource equity
- Compile and interpret statistics and other information from public sources
- Manage, organize, and generate summary statistics and graphs on Excel
Requirements

- Strong personal values that align with ERN’s vision and mission and demonstrated passion for ensuring that all students have a just and equitable education
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong analytical & quantitative skills
- Can quickly analyze complex education data sets using Excel and report conclusions and trends accurately
- Inquisitive about using data to better understand policy outcomes and self-motivated to probe facts and figures to learn more
- Understands and can apply basic descriptive and inferential statistics concepts
- Demonstrated ability to turn complex subject matter into easily consumable written products
