This position will support the North America Actuarial Audit and Consulting division. This division provides a variety of insurance services including actuarial, audit, claim management, consulting, and subrogation to clients in throughout the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Europe.

Job Overview

Davies US is looking for an experienced SENIOR ACCOUNTANT to oversee and manage key aspects of the accounting operations for this division. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will be responsible for managing accounting tasks while ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial regulations.

To be successful in this role, you need to have a keen eye for detail with strong leadership and communication skills. You must have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field with five (5) years of accounting experience, with at two (2) least years in a senior or supervisory role. Additionally, you will need to have a strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements, a knowledge of IFRS is a plus. This role is a full-time, home-based position and may require travel on occasion.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports. Manage the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial statements
  • Oversee the general ledger. Conduct complex account reconciliations and maintain accounting records in compliance with accounting standards. Assist the Head of Finance with month-end reporting
  • Work with the compliance team providing financial support for local, state, and federal government tax filings and requirements. Coordinate with external auditors for the annual audit
  • Develop and monitor accounting policies and procedures to maintain accordance with GAAP.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets and financial forecasts
  • Constantly seek ways to streamline processes, demonstrating initiative and a self-starter attitude
  • Lead and participate in special projects, demonstrating the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Act as a key support to the Head of Finance, demonstrating the ability to understand and manage their daily responsibilities, especially during their absence
  • Provide strategic support to the finance department, initiating improvements and offering solutions proactively

Experience and Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • Minimum of five years of accounting experience, with at least two years in a senior or supervisory role
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  • High proficiency in accounting software (Sage Intacct and Planful experience a plus, and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel

Preferred

  • CPA or CMA a plus
  • Knowledge of IFRS a plus

Position Type, Work Environment and Physical Demands

This is a home-based, full-time, salaried, exempt position that predominantly operates remotely from a professional home-based office environment routinely using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, photocopiers, and scanners and requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk while working on a computer. While performing the duties of this job, the individual will be required to regularly hear and talk. This is a largely sedentary role requiring the ability to sit at a desk, reach outward, use a phone, have use of fingers to operate office equipment such as a keyboard, mouse, phone, printer, copier, and to reach above the head, bend, or stand, as necessary.
