Couchbase's journey began in 2011, born from the strategic merger of two pioneering NoSQL entities: Membase, renowned for its high-performance, distributed key-value store technology rooted in memcached, and CouchOne, the company commercializing the document-oriented CouchDB. This union was driven by a shared vision to create a new breed of database—one that could seamlessly blend the speed and scalability of key-value stores with the flexibility and rich data modeling of document databases.
