Job Summary

The Compass Platform Services Senior Database Architect – MySQL will be a highly experienced MySQL Database Architect with expertise in Performance Tuning, Database design and other DBA responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create standards and recommend database features that can be leveraged for performance and scalability
  • Proactively review databases and identify areas of improvement in current systems (optimization of views, stored procedures, indexes, fragmentation etc.)
  • Work with application development teams to optimize slow performing queries
  • Design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production, test/development, and QA database environments while ensuring high levels of data availability.
  • Define database development standards and work with application development teams to plan implementation
  • Review functional and maintenance jobs and recommend and drive for improvements
  • Review database settings and work with System DBA to make sure the settings are optimal
  • Work with System DBA and Architect on defining and standardizing security best practices
  • Monitor and Audit databases regularly to maintain quality
  • Engage with development teams on database design and review database changes to make sure they align with architecture standards
  • Recommend efficient tooling for development, monitoring, and troubleshooting
  • Create roadmap for database patching and upgrades and utilize new technology/features available with upcoming database versions
  • Provide technical leadership to drive and ensure adoption/consistency of best practices across multiple teams
  • Collaborate with Compass IT Security Architecture to ensure the Dev team follows standards and best practices
  • Participate in Incident triages & on-call rotations.

Job Qualifications

  • Expertise in Performance Analysis & Tuning of MySQL databases
  • Expertise in System & Dev DBA responsibilities of MySQL, and at least one more DB technology
  • Expertise with AWS databases such as RDS/Aurora
  • Experience in using database performance monitoring tools, those built in as well as other vendor tools, to analyze and isolate issues.
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery model.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or combination of education and experience
  • A Minimum of 12 years of experience with relational database technologies is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (English)
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

PREFERRED

  • Well Versed in Windows and Linux operating systems PREFERRED
  • Experience with administration of several of these databases: MySQL, Postgres, Aurora/RDS, Document DB, MongoDB
