Climate Defiance

We're a youth-led climate activist organization using direct action to challenge politicians and demand they take meaningful action on the climate crisis. Our founders and core organizers are young people who came of age in a time of unprecedented challenges - from a global pandemic to an attack on democracy to the ever-present threat of climate catastrophe. We refuse to be told to wait patiently for change when the laws of nature don't care about political convenience.

Our theory of change centers on mass, nonviolent disruption that breaks through political paralysis and forces climate change to the top of the political agenda. We organize coordinated protests, sit-ins, and blockades targeting both Democratic and Republican politicians who support fossil fuel expansion. Our mission is to make supporting any fossil fuels as politically untenable on the left as opposing abortion or gay marriage - and to mobilize the youth vote to hold politicians accountable.

While most of our actions have been in Washington, D.C., we have supporters, organizers, and volunteers across the country in cities like Boston, New York, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Denver, and beyond. We're a scrappy, grassroots organization that believes in the power of ordinary people to create extraordinary change when they're willing to get in faces and refuse to back down.
