About the opportunity

Climate Arc is now seeking an experienced Head of Finance to direct the development and implementation of financial plans as well as to ensure consistent and accurate reporting, management of internal controls and business partnering. The Head of Finance will play a key role in the growth and development of the organisation.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will play a critical part in designing and delivering Arc’s strategy of boosting the capacity of the climate finance ecosystem, by providing reliable and insightful analysis and advice to the leadership team.

In 2024, key deliverables of the Finance Department will include Climate Arc Inc.’s first financial audit and Annual Report as a standalone entity, development of a revenue sharing model, and the building of Arc’s financial capacity in terms of systems and personnel.

This role would suit someone that’s on their way to being a CFO and is looking for the next step up in their career.

You'll have the opportunity to be part of a growing organization and therefore will need to be adaptable and flexible, comfortable with ambiguity and ready to develop systems and processes almost from scratch.

On any given day you could be approving invoices or providing your opinion on the value for money of a particular service or purchase and then in the afternoon working with the Chief of Operations and team members on a revenue sharing model for the climate data ecosystem. You need to be willing and able to tell a story through numbers, knowing what's behind them and bringing them to life for the Leadership Team, Board of Directors and other stakeholders.

What you will be doing:

  • Financial planning and forecasting: develop and implement Arc’s financial plans including budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
  • Financial reporting: prepare and submit financial statements, such as the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows, to the Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and external stakeholders as required.
  • Financial risk management: Identify, assess, and manage financial risks includes such as market risk, credit risk, and operational risk.
  • Internal controls: Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of Arc’s financial information.
  • Treasury management: Oversees Arc’s cash management and investments
  • Financial analysis: Analyze Arc’s financial performance and provide insights to the leadership team.
  • Taxation: Manages Arc’s tax affairs and ensures that the organization complies with all tax laws and regulations both in the USA and UK.
  • Strategic planning: Provide financial input into Arc’s strategic planning process including by assessing the financial implications of strategic initiatives and identifying potential financial risks.
  • Revenue sharing and Pricing: holds the pen on revenue sharing model with grantees and developing our pricing strategy
  • Funder relations: Communicate with Arc’s funders including proving financial updates and responding to funder inquiries.
  • Grantee relations: Provide guidance and support to the Partnerships Team with the financial elements of our grantmaking program and where appropriate liaise directly with grantees.

Requirements

The ideal candidate has:

Required:

  • Dedication to Arc’s mission and vision
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate business objectives into actionable plans
  • A seasoned finance professional with extensive experience in providing strategic financial guidance to organization leaders
  • Degree in Finance, Business, or a related field and/or professional certifications (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, CMA) with significant and progressively senior experience post qualification
  • The ability to work with cross functional teams and influence senior leaders
  • Excellent verbal and written English language and communication skills

Desirable:

  • Understanding of the nonprofit and/or philanthropic sector
  • Experience with one or both of US and UK non-profit financial and tax compliance including grantmaking
  • Experience in leading finance change projects with a focus on organizational effectiveness and long term sustainability

Location

For this role we can offer a remote first working option and are open to locations across the UK, Europe and the USA. Candidates in the US will need to be based on the East Coast due to the need to collaborate closely with employees in UK/European timezones.


Remuneration

Depending on experience and demonstrated capability, the salary range for this role is £100,000-120,000 (or local equivalent if not based in the UK).
