Senior Website (Backend) Developer (Freelance / Remote)

Clay is a global design agency creating world-class digital products and brands. Our clients include Meta, Slack, Google, Snapchat, Amazon, Coinbase, and a range of innovative startups.

We’re looking for an experienced Freelance Backend Developer with a strong background in CMS-driven websites and digital products. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with our development team to build out new site admin panels and refine our existing administrative tools—both for our internal projects and for our clients.

Requirements

You are a perfect fit if you have:

• Extensive experience in backend development for corporate websites and digital products.
• Hands-on experience with multiple CMS, including Headless CMS (Sanity, Contentful, Strapi, Payload) and traditional CMS such as WordPress and Drupal.
• Strong understanding of databases, including PostgreSQL; experience with Redis is a plus.
• Proficiency with Git and modern version control workflows.
• Proven ability to take ownership of backend architecture and deliver high-quality results independently.
• Good command of written English.
• Availability to work within the CET timezone.

Nice to have:

• Solid knowledge of TypeScript and JavaScript.
• Familiarity with Webflow and website builders / no-code or low-code platforms is a plus.
