For our particular upcoming projects, we will only be reviewing applications from New Zealand and Australian applicants. You must also be open to short term contract work that aligns with these upcoming projects.

THIS OPPORTUNITY

As an experienced Junior or Mid level 3D Generalist your primary function is to create high quality CG assets across a variety of projects, with a focus on realistic and/or stylised environmental CG and dynamics. Tasks include the build of these assets as well as implementing them on specific shots, providing downstream departments with both test and final renders of these elements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute a broad range of VFX tasks including look development, lighting objects, modeling, texturing, animation, FX and rendering.
  • Create both organic and hard surface 3D models.
  • Design and create realistic and stylised FX using sprite/volumetric rendering techniques and Houdini particle systems.
  • Create dynamic or rigid body simulations.
  • Create tools, utility scripts, expressions and other digital assets to streamline the set-up process and achieve the desired look.
  • Take responsibility for producing the final looks of FX sequences, including integration with other CG elements.
  • Attend set to capture the required textures and reference material for use in post including but not limited to photo scans for photogrammetry.
  • Understands and follows production guidelines; solves design and/or effect challenges for key visual effects shots.
  • Provide bash and final comps (as required).
  • Work with production management to prioritise tasks.
  • Keep VFX Supervisors and colleagues informed of progress, changes and other critical issues.
  • Accountable for assigned task targets and proactive communication related to the assigned targets.
  • Actively maintain all required documentation including time logging on a daily basis.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in either 3D Animation or Visual Effects (VFX) or have equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years relevant production experience in a VFX or Animation studio, with a focus on environmental CG and dynamics, and competency in photogrammetry, render workflow, lighting and texturing.
  • Solid knowledge of the principles of 3D.
  • Proficiency in Maya, Houdini and Redshift Substance, Zbrush, Nuke, Karma/Solaris, and python, with strong technical skills and ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Advanced troubleshooting/problem-solving ability and excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to support themselves and take initiative.
  • Ability to understand and implement feedback.
  • Ability to work within a team environment and work collaboratively.
  • Ability to integrate into existing pipeline infrastructure.
  • Ability to put new ideas into practice quickly and effectively.
