Carfax, Inc. started its journey in 1984 in Columbia, Missouri, through the efforts of Ewin Barnett III and Robert Daniel Clark. Initially, the company focused on offering vehicle history reports to the automotive market, leveraging a database that started with a mere 10,000 vehicle records. By 1986, CARFAX began selling these reports to dealers, enhancing its data offerings over the years. Fast forward to today, CARFAX has established itself as a leader with the most comprehensive vehicle history database available in North America, boasting over 30 billion records sourced from more than 139,000 different entities. These include U.S. state history departments, collision repair facilities, rental and fleet companies, and various consumer protection agencies.
