About the Team
The Visual Suite encompasses the product vertical teams across Docs, Sheets, Presentations, Whiteboards, and Websites. It helps drive our product offerings in this space, making them cohesive and productive tools for our customers. The teams in VS are largely Frontend specific, with some BE/MLE resources consolidated into a platform team helping the verticals with their feature work.
What technical skills make a good Visual Suite Engineer?
- Passion for great UX, storytelling and collaboration.
- Cross-browser knowledge as we are often driving changes that may have implications across many different browsers, devices, and modalities.
- Problem-solving and algorithm skills.
- Having worked as part of a design system.
- Having worked to build and ship impactful product and/or changes.
- Consideration for performance, especially as it relates to a great product experience.
- Our frontend stack consists of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, React, TypeScript, MobX, etc.. Experience in some of these would be valuable but is not required.
- Firmly grounding in computer science and engineering fundamentals including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns.
What people skills make a good Visual Suite Engineer?
- Cross-team collaboration - our work does not happen in a vacuum.
- Mentoring - we have a strong culture of growth within the group.
- Strong organisational skills - being good at breaking down tasks and delivering on them.
- Excellent written communication skills - we write a lot of design docs and review a lot of PRs.
