About the Tech (Engineering) Specialty

The Technology Specialty is our largest and most diverse Specialty, bringing together all our technical disciplines under one room—from Tech Support to Machine Learning, Platform Infrastructure to Backend Engineering. It’s the home base for our technologists and engineers.

This specialty plays a central role in guiding Canva’s technical evolution. It helps define our long-term technical vision, shape engineering standards, and nurture a strong, inclusive culture of collaboration and innovation. If you love solving complex problems and making a real impact at scale, you’ll feel right at home here.

About the role

As the Operations Business Partner for the Tech Specialty, you'll work closely with leadership and teams to keep things running smoothly, coordinate communications, events, and cadences and support impactful programs like mentoring and inclusion initiatives.

This isn’t just a coordination role. It’s also a hands-on opportunity to own projects end-to-end, simplify complex challenges, and help make Tech at Canva an even better place to work.

Your mission: Working as part of the Tech Ops Team to enable the Technology team to operate at their best by owning specialty-wide operations, cadences, communications, and strategic projects. You'll be the connective tissue across the Specialty, bringing clarity, driving momentum, and helping teams collaborate effectively across a fast-paced, evolving environment.

What you’ll be doing

  • Owning operational cadences and comms: Lead the logistics and content curation for large-scale events like Tech All Hands, Show & Tells, fireside chats, newsletters, and specialty events (e.g., Women in Engineering). Many of these events have 500–2000+ attendees, so attention to detail and comfort managing scale is key.

  • Project & program ownership: Independently run impactful initiatives, from tech mentoring programs to internal engagement activities, ensuring progress, communication, and outcomes are aligned. You’ll be empowered to shape solutions and iterate fast.

  • Act as the glue of the team: Whether it’s wrangling teams for All Hands updates or organising celebration events, You’ll help us recognise the hard work of the Specialty, build a sense of shared purpose, stay connected, and celebrate wins when we hit those Crazy Big Goals.

  • Be a solution seeker: Bring proactive curiosity to every challenge. Whiteboard ideas, ask smart questions, explore new ways of working, and try them out.

  • Forecast and identify emerging needs: Collaborate with leadership to scan ahead and get ahead, spotting areas of opportunity and setting projects in motion before they’re urgent.

You’ll probably be a match if you…

  • Have at least 4 years experience in events, programs, or project management in a scale-up environment, with the ability to run initiatives independently.

  • Are known for your proactivity, curiosity, and ability to get things done in a fast-paced, evolving setting, and always looking for ways to improve how things are done.

  • Thrive on relationship building, especially across multiple teams, disciplines, and levels, and constantly expand internal networks to leverage your relationships to influence without authority.

  • Can break complex work into actionable, trackable steps, and help others stay accountable too.

  • Ability to zoom out and in, connecting your work to the broader business goals.

  • Thrive operating in the grey. We don't often have all the information required and priorities can shift and change quickly, so a comfort with ambiguity and bringing clarity to these situations is key.

  • Are a strong communicator, both verbally, written and visually.

What's in it for you?
Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard — and we do — but you'll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity, and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a range of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work.

Canva is a graphic design platform, used to create social media graphics, presentations, posters, documents and other visual content.

Before Canva, creating a professional looking design was a complex process - you had to purchase expensive software; learn how to use it; purchase stock photography and fonts for the software; decide on a layout; slice images; receive photos and content via email; design something; upload and email the pdf only to find revisions needed to be made … and then finally be able to prepare your design for web or print.

Since launching in August 2013, Canva has been changing the way in which we communicate. Today our design tool has attracted over 15 million happy users across 190 countries, who have collectively created more than 1 billion designs.

With an integrated marketplace that has both free and paid stock photography, fonts, illustrations, and thousands of templates; a paid subscription that offers the ability to set up a brand kit so users can save their brand colours, fonts and assets, and ensure consistency across their designs; and a print service that gives our users the ability to produce professional prints in a variety of formats and sizes, delivered straight to their doorstep - Canva is disrupting the way we design.
