About Us:
CALSTART is a mission-driven industry organization focused on transportation decarbonization and clean air for all.
For over 30 years, it’s been CALSTART’s mission to develop, assess, and implement large-scale, zero-emission transportation solutions to mitigate climate change and support economic growth. CALSTART works with businesses, organizations, governments, and communities to create real-life impact toward clean air and equitable access to clean transportation for all. CALSTART provides scientific, technical and policy support for regulatory development and clean technology and infrastructure acceleration.

About The Role:

The Junior Business Analyst (BA) plays a critical role in translating complex program policies and business needs into clear, testable software requirements for multiple program teams using Salesforce and related tools. This role is focused on requirements of quality and SDLC execution, ensuring that work entering delivery is well-defined, measurable, and fully “interlocked” into development and testing practices.
The JBA partners closely with Senior BA, Program teams, Project/Program Managers, Salesforce Admins, Developers (internal and vendor), and QA/UAT stakeholders to drive clarity, reduce rework, and support consistent delivery outcomes across the lifecycle from intake through release.
This position is critical in fast-moving environments where multiple stakeholders (internal teams, external partners, and developers) are contributing feedback simultaneously. The Technical Analyst protects delivery momentum by creating structure, clarity, and a single source of truth across UAT, backlog management, and solution alignment.
CALSTART values transparency and strives to provide as much information regarding compensation as possible. The rate for this contract position is $40 per hour.
This is a 40 hour per week contract position with the possibility to extend as well as convert to full time if the needs arise.

What You’ll Do:

  • Requirements Documentation & Analysis Support: Assist in gathering and documenting business requirements from program teams and stakeholders.
  • Translate notes, meetings, and program conversations into structured requirement artifacts.
  • Support creation of user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional documentation.
  • Ensure requirements are written clearly enough for development and QA teams to execute against.
  • Escalate unclear, conflicting, or incomplete requirements to the Senior BA for guidance.
  • UAT & Testing Support:
  • Assist in organizing UAT feedback across multiple stakeholders and testing channels.
  • Document issues, enhancement requests, and bug observations during UAT sessions.
  • Help categorize feedback into structured formats for Senior BA review (bug vs. enhancement vs. cosmetic).
  • Maintain testing documentation and help track outcomes across cycles.
  • Backlog & Intake Coordination: Support intake processes by capturing requests in Jira, spreadsheets, or designated intake tools.
  • Ensure tickets contain sufficient detail before being escalated for prioritization.
  • Help maintain alignment between multiple tracking sources (Jira, Excel trackers, meeting notes).
  • Reduce duplicate or fragmented requests by documenting and consolidating feedback.
  • Communication & Documentation: Prepare meeting notes, summaries, and structured follow-ups under Senior BA guidance.
  • Maintain requirement repositories, SOPs, and documentation libraries.
  • Support creation of clear handoff documentation between business and technical teams.
  • Help ensure program direction is reflected accurately in artifacts and tickets.
  • Delivery Support & SDLC Execution: Assist Senior BA in maintaining SDLC discipline and structured handoffs.
  • Support backlog grooming preparation and requirement readiness.
  • Help track dependencies, open questions, and decision items for escalation.
  • Maintain documentation that supports consistent delivery practices across programs.
  • Reporting & Operational Support: Assist in documenting reporting requirements and tracking gaps in data visibility.
  • Support preparation of lightweight delivery status summaries or operational reports.
  • Help ensure requirements include measurable outcomes where applicable.

What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • 1-2 years experience with Business Analysis or technical delivery environments.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or CRM-based workflows is preferred.
  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple conversations into structured artifacts.
  • Strong communication skills with a collaborative, support-oriented mindset.
  • Strong process mapping skills (current/future state) and ability to translate process into system behavior.
  • Salesforce ecosystem experience (Sales/Service Cloud and/or Experience Cloud), including understanding of objects/data concepts and automation constraints.
  • Experience collaborating with Salesforce admins/developers and/or external vendors to deliver solutions.
  • Proficiency with Jira (or similar) and strong documentation practices (Confluence or similar).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting UAT/test planning and converting requirements into test scenarios/cases.
  • Experience in rules-driven environments (eligibility, incentives, compliance-like program requirements) where edge cases and auditability.
  • BA certifications (CBAP, PMI-PBA) a plus.
