BoostDraft is a software engineering company that develops IDE for documents. It was founded by MIT and Stanford grad students, developing an assisted document editor for documents. It is a new document editor that employs error checking, reference checking and auto-completion using both rule-based approach and NLP, like what coding editors/IDE (e.g. VSCode, Pycharm) do.

Background Traction

We are currently focusing on Lawyers who draft relatively standardized but long documents, such as contracts. With only three years after our product launch, we already have more than 8,000 active paid users. We have several long-term, large-scale contracts with famed enterprises and law firms. As a result, we achieved significant success, including profitability and exponential growth, all without relying on external funding for nearly four years.

  • Being accountable for technical decisions that your team makes, by either making the decision by yourself or reviewing and approving the decisions made by your team members.

  • Growing your team members by giving them incrementally more challenging assignments and ongoing coaching.
  • Create a psychologically safe environment across the company beyond your local team.

Requirements

At least three of the followings:

  • Skilled in optimizing collaboration and operations by implementing engineering processes or tools
  • Experienced in assessing team members' performance in collaboration with executives and other managers, and determining their rewards, such as annual bonuses
  • Experienced in nurturing team members through effective coaching and mentoring support
  • Experienced in setting team priorities or project direction based on customer feedback and/or marketing data
  • Experienced in writing tech blogs for public audiences or conducting public speeches to share insights and expertise

In addition to the above, we expect successful candidates to meet the following qualifications:

  • Experienced in managing an engineering team of more than five members
  • Fluent in coding with either C#, C++, Java or Rust
  • Business level English
  • Passion to create a psychologically safe environment.
  • Communication skill to clearly convey your idea to others.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related field.
  • Ability to understand both the customer's and engineer's point of view.
  • Fluency in Japanese

Our teams are working fully remotely, and we are expanding our global presence. While our headquarters are currently in Japan, relocation to Japan is not mandatory. If you wish to relocate, we are happy to help you obtain a visa.

BoostDraft was born from the collaboration of Yohei Fujii, a software engineer with an MIT background, and Hiroshi Watanabe, an attorney who studied at Stanford. The software is designed to be intuitive and operates locally on the user's device, ensuring that sensitive document data remains private. Since our launch, we've seen rapid adoption, primarily through word-of-mouth, by thousands of users in Japan, the United States, and other regions, demonstrating the real-world impact of our solution on their daily workflows.
