Join our Enterprise Software team to design and deliver a common embedded software that will be deployed across Boeing’s entire portfolio—commercial airplanes, defense systems, space vehicles, rotary-wing platforms, and autonomous systems. In this exciting role, you will have a unique opportunity to directly support exciting new Boeing projects, from autonomous electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircrafts to air superiority aircrafts critical to ournation'sdefense.You’llbuild safety- and security-first software that scales from flight-critical avionics to mission systems and everything in-between.

The ideal candidate willbe working at the intersection of RTOS/virtualization, hardware abstraction, while also learning exciting new Hardware platforms and develop approaches to satisfy rigorous certification requirements. This role is at the cutting edge of next‑genDevSecOpsfor embedded systems, using the latest and best tooling available in industry: you will implement automated CI/CD pipelines for safety-critical code, shift-left security and verification, continuous integration of hardware-in-the-loop tests, modern update strategies, and repeatable compliance artifacts to accelerate certification across programs.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels includingAssociate andExperienced Level Software Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Automates, develops, monitors, improves, and troubleshoots across software engineering development, tooling, testing, integration, deployment, configuration processes, and security controls.

  • Analyzes, plans, and executes mitigation strategies to prevent potential security risks, threats, and vulnerabilities.

  • Implements an environment that enableshigh levelsof quality, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement across the organization.

  • Supports collaboration with cross functional teams to build andmaintainrobust, scalable, and secure software engineering systems.

  • Implements current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks, and regulations in the software engineeringDevSecOpsenvironment.

  • Develops,documentsandmaintainsstandardized, efficient, and innovative processes, tools, methodologies, and performance metrics to streamline the software engineering lifecycle and enable continuous integration, delivery, and deployment of safety critical software.

BasicQualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience inmodernprogramminglanguages such as C, C++, Python or Java

  • 3+ years of experience with Development Operations (DevOps) and/or Development Security Operations (DevSecOps)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in Real Time Operating Systems such as VxWorks, DEOS, Integrity-178

  • Experience in; GitLab CI/CD, Bazel, Docker containers and devcontainers, VectorCAST instrumentation, RTOS Compilers

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

  • Level 2: 3 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Level 3: 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Knowledge of cloud architecture, including thedifferent typesof clouds (public, private, and hybrid), the different cloud platforms and the various components involved (computing,storagingand networking). Ability to automate and script skills.

  • Knowledge of containerization technologies which includes understanding how to manage containers, deploy applications in a containerized environment, and troubleshoot issues. Knowledge of understanding of networking concepts, including IP addressing, subnetting, routing, and security (focus on security best practices and technologies).

  • Knowledge of cultural philosophies, practices and tools required for continuous integration and continuous delivery to deliver applications and services with increased velocity and in line with security requirements.

  • Knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology, avionics). Knowledge of the interaction between departments/disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business).

  • Knowledge of specification format requirements, guidelines, and change control processes. Understanding of relationship between specifications/standards andaircraft/product certification systems.

  • Knowledge of host environments, including processors, operatingsystemsand networks. Ability to build, integrate and troubleshoot software components.

  • Knowledge of software programming languages and databases and the ability to apply to the software domain. Programming languages encompass higher order languages, auto-codedlanguagesand assembly languages.

  • Ability to develop new network technology. Knowledge of network communication concepts, principles and architectures, associated with network planning, design, integration and maintenance. End-to-end knowledge of network transport technologies, systems, environments, services, protocols, performancemonitoringand diagnostic analysis. Knowledge of network security techniques, network managementpracticesand principles.

  • Knowledge of general and software development and testing tools,capabilityand usage. Examples include compilers, linkers, debuggers, data analysis tools, graphical user interface builders, post processing tools, requirements management tools, and web authoring tools.

  • Knowledge of domains, characteristics,constraintsand products that require software and influence architecture, requirements, interfaces, designs, and integration/test approaches. Domain examples include data processing, ground support,toolsand analysis models. Examples of characteristics and constraints thatimpactsoftware include operating systems,fidelityand information processing capacity. Examples of products includeaircraft, missiles, airborne/shipboard/space systems/ground-based support systems.

  • Ability to design and develop automation of software tests, execute automated tests, track results, manage test data, andutilizeresults to improve software quality.

  • Ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area. This includes the ability to see and understand the inter-relationships between components of systems and plans,anticipatefuture events, and apply the principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance.

Summary pay range for Associate Level (Level 2):$85,000 - $133,400

The Boeing Company's story began in 1916, when American lumber industrialist William E. Boeing founded Pacific Aero Products Company in Seattle, Washington. This venture was sparked by his fascination with airplanes, which he first encountered at the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition in 1909. A year later, he acquired a wooden boat manufacturing plant that would become his first airplane factory. Teaming up with U.S. Navy officer Conrad Westervelt, Boeing developed the B&W seaplane. In 1917, the company was renamed Boeing Airplane Company. The early years saw Boeing building 'flying boats' for the Navy during World War I and later supplying trainers, pursuit planes, observation craft, torpedo planes, and patrol bombers to the U.S. military throughout the 1920s and 30s.

The late 1920s marked Boeing's expansion into airmail services, and in 1928, William Boeing formed the Boeing Airplane & Transport Corporation to encompass both manufacturing and airline operations. This was followed by a renaming to United Aircraft and Transport Corporation in 1929 and the acquisition of several aircraft makers, including Pratt & Whitney and Sikorsky Aviation. In 1931, the company consolidated its airline holdings into United Airlines. However, antitrust legislation in 1934 mandated the separation of aircraft manufacturing from air transportation, leading to the dissolution of United Aircraft and Transport. This resulted in the formation of three independent entities: Boeing Airplane Company, United Airlines, and United Aircraft Corporation (later United Technologies). Despite this restructuring and a temporary dip in employment, the looming World War II revived Boeing's fortunes with significant orders for bombers. The company became a major contributor to the Allied war effort, producing iconic aircraft like the B-17 Flying Fortress and B-29 Superfortress. Post-war, Boeing continued its military aircraft production with jets like the B-47 Stratojet and B-52 Stratofortress, while also venturing into the commercial jetliner market with the 707 in 1958. The company officially became The Boeing Company in 1961, reflecting its diversification into fields beyond aircraft, including missiles and space technology. A significant merger with McDonnell Douglas Corporation in 1997 further solidified Boeing's position as a global aerospace leader. Over the decades, Boeing has continued to innovate and expand, moving its corporate headquarters from Seattle to Chicago in 2001, and then to Arlington, Virginia, in 2022.
