Founded in 2019 by Kyle Kirwan and Egor Gryaznov, Bigeye emerged from a shared passion for the power of well-managed data. Their journey began at Uber, where they collaborated on data pipelines for the company's A/B testing tool. It was here they experienced firsthand the significant challenges posed by data quality issues. This experience ignited their mission to create a solution that would empower data teams to trust their data. Bigeye was conceived as a data observability platform built by data professionals, for data professionals, designed to proactively improve the reliability of every dataset and pipeline.

The company's vision is to help the world unlock the full potential of data, recognizing it as a transformative force in modern society. Bigeye's platform is engineered to automate data quality monitoring, utilizing machine learning for anomaly detection and providing granular root cause analysis. This enables organizations to identify and resolve data incidents before they can impact business operations, fostering a culture of data reliability. Initially known as Toro Data Labs, the company has steadily grown, attracting significant investment and expanding its team. Bigeye champions a remote-first work environment, bringing together diverse talent from across the United States. In late 2024, Eleanor Treharne-Jones, who had joined as COO earlier in the year, was appointed CEO, with Kyle Kirwan transitioning to Chief Product Officer to focus on product innovation. This leadership realignment aims to further accelerate Bigeye's growth and its commitment to helping organizations make magic with their data.
