We are currently seeking a highly organized Publishing Associate who will support the Associate Director on all aspects of Penguin Publishing Group’s backlist publishing projects. The ideal candidate will be able to manage a diverse set of publishing responsibilities in a dynamic environment, adapt to different work styles, and re-prioritize quickly based on sales and publishing needs. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with all imprints and support departments within the Penguin Publishing Group and help bring backlist titles to a new audience.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with imprints’ publishing, editorial, managing editorial, art, inventory, and production departments on backlist publishing projects

  • Strategize with the backlist team on decisions including title selection and timing

  • Communicate with the sales team throughout the project inception and completion process

  • Draft and disseminate project updates to sales and imprint teams on a weekly and monthly basis

  • Core member of media tie-in team: maintain tracking grid, communicate updates across the division on a monthly basis, interface with editors, assist with outreach to studios and coordination of the tie-in process

  • Analyze trends, competitive title reports, and competitors’ seasonal catalogs to identify opportunities for backlist projects

The idea candidate will have:

  • 1-3 years prior publishing experience

  • A passion for both fiction and nonfiction, and an interest in genre fiction

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and build internal relationships with various imprint departments, as well as external relationships with media studios to facilitate tie-in projects

  • Outstanding organization, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills

  • Ability to take initiative and problem solve creatively and professionally in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
