India onlyWe are seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Backend Engineer (Laravel) to join our engineering team. In this role, you will architect, develop, and oversee the evolution of robust and scalable backend systems using Laravel and modern PHP technologies. You will leverage your deep expertise in backend engineering, cloud computing, and distributed systems to solve complex problems and lead technical initiatives. As a senior member of our team, you will mentor engineers, define best practices, and collaborate across teams to deliver high-performance, maintainable solutions.
Your Job Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and develop high-performance Laravel applications and microservices using PHP 8+ and Laravel 11+.
- Lead the development and deployment of cloud-native applications using AWS, Azure, or DigitalOcean, ensuring scalability and reliability.
- Apply object-oriented programming (OOP) and SOLID principles to build clean, maintainable, and reusable code.
- Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and data access layers with MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Implement and manage event sourcing, queues, caching, and jobs for optimal performance and scalability.
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and integrations with third-party services.
- Lead code reviews, CI/CD workflows, and static analysis using tools like Laravel Pint, PHPStan, and GitHub Actions.
- Mentor junior engineers and enforce coding standards across Laravel projects.
- Collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and the Solutions team to translate business goals into robust technical implementations.
- Represent Axelerant’s Laravel expertise through technical blogs, webinars, and community events.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- 5+ years of experience in backend development with PHP and Laravel framework.
- Proficiency in frontend tools such as Livewire, Vue.js, Alpine.js, or Inertia.js.
- Strong understanding of MySQL/PostgreSQL, Redis, Horizon, and Eloquent ORM.
- Proven expertise in designing and optimizing APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud environments (AWS/Azure/DigitalOcean).
- Familiarity with testing frameworks like PestPHP or PHPUnit and best practices for code quality assurance.
- Strong command of software design patterns with a focus on scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills to mentor and guide teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
Good To Have
- Experience with Filament PHP (custom resources, actions, widgets).
- Familiarity with multi-tenant or microservices architectures.
- Experience in eCommerce, SaaS, or Fintech platforms.
- Knowledge of monitoring tools like Grafana, Prometheus, or ELK Stack.
- Contributions to open-source Laravel or Filament projects.
