In 2020, Anurag Arjun - a co-founder of Polygon - identified a critical challenge in the blockchain ecosystem: as the number of rollups and appchains proliferated, users and liquidity were becoming increasingly fragmented across isolated networks. The existing infrastructure lacked a unified approach to data availability and cross-chain interoperability, creating friction that hindered mass adoption. This realization sparked the creation of Avail as a modular data availability layer within Polygon, designed to empower rollup and application blockchain communities with scalable infrastructure.

After years of development as part of Polygon, Avail spun off into an independent entity in 2023, with Anurag Arjun leading the transition and acquiring the project to focus exclusively on becoming the consensus and data availability layer of choice for the entire blockchain ecosystem. Today, Avail serves as the growth engine for blockchain apps to expand beyond their native chains, offering a unified platform that connects users, applications, and liquidity across multiple blockchain networks. Backed by $75M+ in venture funding from Founders Fund, Dragonfly, Cyber Fund, and other prominent investors, Avail provides developers with the tools to build rollups, appchains, and decentralized applications that scale seamlessly while maintaining trustless, cryptographic security.
