🔧 Piping Engineer – Nuclear Engineering (Assystem)

📍 Location: Central Glasgow (Hybrid: 2–3 days/week onsite)
🕓 Type: Staff or Umbrella Contractor

Join Assystem’s dynamic, multi-disciplinary engineering team supporting one of our major client . As a Piping Engineer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and compliance of infrastructure across major operational sites.

🧠 Summary of the Role

You’ll work alongside Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical, and Building Services Engineers to:

  • 🧩 Develop and maintain Infrastructure Design Substantiation documents

  • 🛠️ Manage and assess design changes and concessions

  • 📊 Present design justifications to nuclear safety committees

  • 🔧 Produce and maintain EIMT (Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing) schedules

  • 🧾 Review and assess Periodic Safety Reviews and technical documentation

  • 💬 Provide expert technical advice to internal and external stakeholders

  • 🧠 Apply advanced piping and process design principles in a nuclear/high-hazard environment

Experience

Essential:

  • 🔩 Proven experience as a Piping Engineer in industrial plant and machinery environments

  • 📘 Strong understanding of British & European design standards and best practices

  • ⚙️ Practical experience across concept, detailed design, and construction stages (preferably industrial or maritime projects)

  • 🧱 Skilled in design assessment of plant and equipment to withstand hazards

  • 🔧 Proficient in pipe stress analysis

  • 🧾 Capable of producing robust technical justifications and documentation for design modifications in high-hazard industries

  • 🤝 Experienced in contributing to multi-disciplinary engineering projects

Desirable:

  • ☢️ Previous experience in high-risk or nuclear environments

  • 🔍 Familiarity with HAZID/HAZOP and safety case development

  • 🏗️ Experience in the UK nuclear industry (energy or defence), including safety-related structures, systems & components

  • 📖 Knowledge of UK and US nuclear regulations, codes, and standards

🎓 Qualifications & Training

Essential:

  • 🎯 Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline

  • 🧑‍🔧 Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent experience

  • ☢️ Willingness to complete a Nuclear Introductory Course within 6 months (if from a non-nuclear background)

Desirable:

  • 🎓 Engineering Degree (BEng/MEng)

  • 🏅 Chartered Engineer (CEng) status

Due to the nature of this role the successful candidate will require Security clearance. To gain this they will be required to be a Sole UK national.
