Position Summary

Under general direction of National VP of APS Sales, the Portfolio Director will engage with senior level executives to help develop a go to market strategy and coordinate Pharmaceutical Partner activities including programming, market research, and active facilitation of consultant meetings. This role will be responsible for managing a targeted book of business with several large pharmaceutical partners across specialties and classes of trade. This position will be responsible for managing relationships in collaboration with existing Corporate Account Directors for large pharma manufacturers across multiple therapeutic areas, classes of trade, and Cencora GPO offerings. The position will require significant proficiency in a wide range of classes of trade, therapeutic areas, and GPO offerings. Given the breadth of therapeutic areas covered, this position must be in frequent communication with the internal data and sales teams, who can provide their specialized expertise when needed. The portfolio director will work closely with Oncology Corporate Account Directors who manages the relationship in oncology.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops and cultivates client relationships across multiple therapeutic areas; prepares presentations and proposals in support of new business development
  • Meets with senior level executives at manufacturer to discuss go to market strategy across multiple therapeutic areas and classes of trade
  • Manages a large book of business for these pharmaceutical partners and develops strategies for continued growth across specialties
  • Frequently engages with various national manufacturer account directors to support GPO operations and work to develop key meeting agendas
  • Communicates client needs to the appropriate internal teams across many specialties
  • Oversees the ongoing maintenance of existing programs and creation of new programs that fit client needs; acts as a client advocate to ensure key program deliverable align with client needs
  • Works closely with Cencora data analysts and sales teams to monitor key developments across a broad range of specialties
  • Gathers information from internal Cencora teams, analyzes and develops strategies that address dynamics across multiple therapeutic areas that may affect meeting objectives, such as changes in customer ownership, new affiliations and targets of opportunity for new growth
  • Meets with internal organizational staff, ie, meeting planners, communications, web design, etc to ensure their understanding of meeting program goals and objectives
  • Ensures regulatory compliance with the PhRMA code in interactions with health care professionals, FDA regulations and other corporate policies governing ethical business practices
  • Leads meetings with client and internal Cencora teams to ensure alignment on client objectives
  • Travels to and participates in meetings and projects as required
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Experience and Educational Requirements:

Requires broad training in fields such as sales, marketing, pharmacy science, or similar vocations generally obtained through completion of a 4-year bachelor’s degree program, MBA or other related graduate-level degree is preferred.

Requires 10+years' experience in consulting, health care management or directly related and progressively responsible experience preferably in the healthcare industry. business development, strategic consulting, or other analytical work in the pharmaceutical, biotech or related industries. Experience working in a highly matrixed environment.

Minimum Skills, Knowledge and Ability Requirements:

  • A self-starter with a proven ability in sales management, sales operations process, planning and goal setting, successful strategic and consultative selling techniques, and related information for pharma, biotech, and medical device companies
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, for the purpose of preparing reports and disseminating information
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to develop and maintain cooperative working and business relationships Strong presentation skills; ability to train others in this area
  • Ability to interpret industry trends and competitive information and develop strategies and tactics to respond to changes in the marketplace
  • Ability to accommodate at least 35% travel.
  • Demonstrated experience and strong relationships working with manufacturers and GPO contracting
  • Thorough knowledge of the current and ongoing corporate pharmaceutical marketplace across multiple specialties and the resulting opportunities it presents to pharma companies.
  • Proficient in health system purchasing dynamics, including knowledge of the 340B program.
  • Deep knowledge across therapeutic areas, classes of trade, and GPO offerings / services.
  • Ability to synthesize important and relevant findings in a highly complex and diverse industry
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to coach, mentor, and serve as a role model for other AB members
  • Working knowledge of GPO contract strategy, particularly across different types of customers
  • Excellent presentation skills to high level executives, both for large meeting groups and smaller sessions
  • Strong communication skills and professionalism, especially with senior level executives at pharma companies

*This Salary Range reflects a National Average for this job. The actual range may vary based on your locale. Ranges in Colorado/California/Washington/NewYork/Hawaii/Vermont/Minnesota/Massachusetts/Illinois State-specific locations may be up to 10% lower than the minimum salary range, and 12% higher than the maximum salary range.
