Responsibilities
- Hands on duties to architect, develop, and support integration solutions using engines such as Rhapsody and Mirth Connect to connect electronic health records (EHRs), public health registries, and external partners.
- Act as a supervisor and provides guidance to a team of Integration Engineers.
- Implement, test, and troubleshoot HL7 v2.x, C-CDA, and FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) messaging protocols to ensure accurate and timely health data exchange.
- Analyze integration requirements, collaborate with stakeholders, and translate public health needs into technical specifications and workflow designs.
- Lead integration projects from conceptualization through deployment, providing technical expertise and mentorship to junior integration engineers.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, interface specifications, and data mapping guides.
- Ensure compliance with public health reporting standards, HIPAA, and other regulatory frameworks governing health information exchange.
- Monitor the performance and integrity of integration solutions, proactively identifying and resolving issues to minimize data disruptions.
- Collaborate closely with epidemiologists, program managers, IT administrators, and external health organizations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Health Informatics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in health IT integration, preferably in a public health or healthcare setting.
- Proven hands-on experience with Rhapsody and/or Mirth Connect integration engines.
- Deep understanding of HL7 v2.x, C-CDA, and FHIR messaging standards and their real-world implementation.
- Familiarity with other health data exchange protocols (CCD/CDA, XDS, SOAP, RESTful APIs).
- Strong problem-solving skills, analytical mindset, and keen attention to data quality and security.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple integration projects and deliver results within set timeframes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with public health agencies (local, state, or federal) or CDC/NHSN systems.
- Knowledge of data governance and public health surveillance systems.
- Experience installing, configuring and working with HAPI-FHIR FHIR server and/or other FHIR server platforms.
- Experience participating in HL7 FHIR Connectathons.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server administration.
- Working knowledge of Apache Tomcat.
- Prior involvement in large-scale data modernization or health information exchange initiatives.

- Must be able to work during eastern time unless approved by your manager.
