Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking an driven, attentive Construction Inspector for immediate employment in AECOM’s West Region to join our Class I Railroad Team. This is a remote position. This individual will be responsible for field visits to projects in northern Indiana including but not limited to the Fort Wayne, Elkhart, Burns Harbor, and Hammond areas. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering or a minimum of 4 years of experience in construction inspection, engineering design, or project management. Experience with Class I Railroads is preferred but not required.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- On-site monitoring of Public Improvement projects conducted by outside parties (DOT’s) and their contractors for conformance with railroad requirements and approved contractor means and methods.
- Conducting project preconstruction meetings between client personnel, the contractor, and sponsor.
- Communicating with the client and contractor to work through field changes.
- Maintaining accurate project records and being accountable for successful and timely delivery of field reports and meeting minutes while upholding the quality standards of AECOM and the client.
- Interacting with a multi-disciplinary team comprised of track, structures, geotechnical, signals, mechanical, and civil engineers.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma + 4 years of demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or/ education.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and able to communicate (oral and written) effectively.
- Willingness to travel 2-5 days a week within northern Indiana.
- Due to nature of projects involved, US Citizenship is required.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s license and as a condition of employment, pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of 4 years’ experience in the freight rail industry with Public Improvement Projects is preferred.
- Structural/Civil Design Background is preferred.
