Our client is a group from European capitals whose main activity is in the fields of generation and distribution of electricity, natural gas, oil, and renewable energy. With more than 200,000 employees, it is one of the largest utility companies in the world. One of their branches performs Consultancy and applied Research and Innovation (R&I) projects on the whole electricity value-chain, including the fields of power generation, transmission, distribution, storage, and end-use, with a focus on energy transition and the 3 Ds: decarbonization, decentralization, and digitalization.
As part of their consulting and R&I activities, they're looking for a talented Project Engineer (Electrical) to support the execution of consulting services and R&I projects focused on ensuring an efficient energy transition in America that considers a strong penetration of renewables and flexibilization of existing thermal assets.
Some responsibilities include:
- Technical Support to Diagnose,Monitor and Assess HVAC/HVDC Transmission Lines Throughout their Lifecycle. This technical supportwill typically include, but is not limited to:
- Design Stage: i) Selectionof components e.g. insulators, surge arresters etc.; ii) Challenge towerconfigurations; and iii) Monitoring system selection.
- Procurement Stage: i) Technicaloffer reviews; ii) Writing of scope of works; Operational Stage: i) Analysefaults; ii) Assess line and tower damage; and iii) Grid simulations to assessoperating conditions.
- Develop risk assessment and financial modeling to elaborate business cases for BESS solutions when required.
- Technical Support to Diagnose,Monitor and Assess Power Transformers Throughout their Lifecycle. This technical supportwill typically include, but is not limited to:
- Design Stage: i) Reviewand creation of technical specs; ii) Procurement support (proposals review andrecommendation); iii) Verification of Supplier specification; and iv) DesignReview.
- Procurement Stage: i) FactoryTechnical Inspection (new OEMs to be evaluated); ii) Witnessing Active Parts;iii) Witnessing of FAT (Factory Acceptance Test); iv) Procurement andinstallation of DGAs (Digital Gas Analyzers); and v) Witnessing of SAT (SiteAcceptance Test).
- Operational Stage (after the Transformer is deliveredon-site): i) Oil sampling and analysis and lifetime assessment; ii) Audit andquality validation of local Labs; and iii) OneBoard (digital platform foroffline and online monitoring, with health diagnostic KPIs embedded).
- Technical Support toAssess Switchgears Throughout its Design and Procurement Stage. This technical supportwill typically include, but is not limited to:
- Design Stage: i) Review and creation oftechnical specs; ii) Procurement support (proposals review and recommendation);iii) Verification of Supplier specification; and iv) Design Review.
- Procurement Stage: i) FactoryTechnical Inspection (new OEMs to be evaluated. e.g. China fact.); ii) Witnessingof FAT (Factory Acceptance Test); and iii) Witnessing of SAT (Site AcceptanceTest).
- Technical Support for DifferentInvestigations to be Performed on Electrical Equipment. This technical supportwill typically include, but is not limited to:
- Fact findings ondamaged components, identifying damage mechanisms and potential causes offailure.
- Support power plantson technical discussions with O&M, insurance companies and localregulators.
- Witness inspectionsand different procedures performed by external contractors.
- Evaluate differenttechnologies in the case of upgrades or retrofittings.
The desirable candidate shall be a talented engineer with an Electrical Engineering degree, with at least 5 years of experience. The candidate must be fully proficient in English and ideally know Portuguese. The candidate must demonstrate strong technical competences in at least one activity (listed above), be open to travel abroad, and be fully autonomous (driving included). Ideally have a strong interest in the power generation and transmission sector, and ideally have a basic understanding of the operation of the Chilean national grid (Coordinador Eléctrico Nacional) and / or other similar electrical markets.
The position is located in Las Condes, Santiago de Chile, and is hybrid, meaning the candidate can work from home two days per week.
