Uwa Samuel
@uwasamuel
I’m a compliance-focused in-house counsel and barrister, helping regulated businesses manage legal, regulatory, and financial-crime risk.
What I'm looking for
I’m a Barrister & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria with hands-on experience in regulatory advisory, compliance operations, contract risk review, and audit-ready documentation across corporate and public-sector environments. I bring a practical, rules-first approach—interpreting policies clearly, spotting operational and legal risk early, and translating requirements into actions stakeholders can execute.
In my current In-House Counsel (Compliance & Regulatory) role at Tevavid, I provide in-house legal and compliance advisory by interpreting applicable requirements, conducting risk reviews, and maintaining structured documentation for operational activities. I draft, review, and negotiate contracts and procurement documentation, then identify legal/compliance risks and recommend mitigation actions to management. I also coordinate approvals and compliance documentation with external agencies and internal teams to support compliant execution.
Before that, as a Regulatory & Corporate Advisory Associate at Starlion Legal, I reviewed and red-lined commercial agreements, NDAs, and service/vendor contracts to identify compliance, liability, and confidentiality risks. I drafted internal memos and advisory notes for corporate matters, regulatory questions, and dispute-resolution strategy, including mapping contractual obligations to operational actions and compliance requirements.
My public-sector background at INEC HQ strengthened my governance and documentation discipline: I supported petition and dispute-related matters by organizing case files and evidence, conducted legal research on governance frameworks and constitutional interpretation, and advised on confidentiality, governance, and administrative law compliance during internal reviews and audits. Earlier, at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, I built structured case summaries and maintained a judgment knowledge base. Today, I’m building FinTech-focused capability aligned to financial crime compliance, and I’m eager to bring this same rigor to roles spanning compliance, AML/CFT, regulatory risk, governance, and product/legal support in regulated businesses.
