I build stem-cell cancer models and uncover molecular mechanisms driving disease.

Message

At St. Anna Children's Cancer Research Institute, I established a human mesenchymal stem-cell platform to model Ewing sarcoma progression, including lentiviral delivery in 3D spheroid culture. I study how hypoxia and anchorage shape stem-cell differentiation across CCRI, Medical University of Vienna, and BOKU collaborations.

Previously, I mapped A-to-I RNA editing in mice at Max Perutz Laboratories and developed CRISPR-Cas9 kinase knockouts and IRF activation assays at CeMM. My work combines stem-cell biology, cancer research, RNA biology, genomics, and molecular assay development.

SC
Current

Post-Doctoral Researcher

St. Anna Children's Cancer Research Institute (CCRI)

Jan 2021 - Present (5 years 8 months)

Established a platform for modeling Ewing Sarcoma progression using human Mesenchymal Stem Cells and set up a lentiviral delivery system for spheroid culture. Investigated effects of hypoxia and anchorage on hMSC differentiation and coordinated research across multiple institutions.

RA

Project Scientist

Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Acade

Jan 2019 - Dec 2020 (1 year 11 months)

Developed CRISPR-Cas9 knockouts of kinases in the TLR pathway in THP1 cells and optimized Phos-Tag SDS PAGE for monitoring IRF activation. Collaborated with Boehringer Ingelheim to integrate research into therapeutic development.

MB

Ph.D. Student

Max Perutz Laboratories, Vienna Biocenter

Jan 2015 - Dec 2019 (4 years 11 months)

Created a comprehensive map of the A-to-I RNA Editome in mice using Nascent RNA-Seq and analyzed alternative splicing in tissues lacking ADAR1 and ADAR2. Developed a novel CLIP-seq protocol for double-stranded RNA binding proteins.

IM

Research Fellow

Institute for Stem Cell Biology & Regenerative Medicine

Jan 2011 - Dec 2014 (3 years 11 months)

Developed shRNA screening in mouse embryonic stem cells to identify factors influencing pluripotency and established mESC lines for genetic studies. Set up hESC culture systems and directed differentiation into mesodermal lineages.
