Tusiime Emmanuel

I’m a software engineering student at Makerere University (Finalist) and a hands-on builder of AI-driven products. I focus on turning models into usable applications by pairing strong backend APIs with practical front-end experiences.

In my AI Research Intern role at Makerere AI Lab, COCIS, I developed an object detection system for whitefly detection using a YOLOv8 model for agricultural monitoring. I implemented the backend with FastAPI, migrated it to a RESTful API architecture for scalability, and built the front end using React, while also contributing to dataset collection, preprocessing, and model training.

I also worked on an Automatic Speech Recognition project for low-resource African languages, integrating FastAPI for deployment and testing and containerizing the solution with Docker hub. For my final year, I’m developing Ecolens—an object detection platform focused on environmental monitoring and sustainability—while continuing to build web and API solutions such as Twilio-powered notifications and automation workflows.
