Ricky Southerland
@rickysoutherland
Experienced dance educator and leader in arts education.
What I'm looking for
I am a dedicated dance educator with a robust background in both teaching and administrative roles within the arts education sector. With an MFA in Dance from Hollins University and extensive experience in higher education, I have successfully taught various dance courses at institutions such as Goucher College and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. My commitment to fostering artistic growth is evident through my leadership positions, including serving as the President of the National Dance Education Organization, where I advocated for dance education and developed strategic initiatives to enhance the field.
Throughout my career, I have been involved in numerous projects that bridge the gap between education and the arts. I led the Arts Infusion Project, which secured a $1,000,000 grant to create professional development programs for teachers in Title IX schools. My work has not only focused on curriculum development but also on mentoring new faculty and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. I believe in the transformative power of dance and strive to create inclusive environments that encourage creativity and expression among students.
