Reyna Cheng
@reynacheng
Software engineering student and freelance tester improving software quality through testing and AI training.
What I'm looking for
I am a software engineering student at the University of Sydney with hands-on experience in software testing, AI training, and Java development. I combine strong academic performance (WAM: 80) with practical project work and freelance roles that sharpen my technical and QA skills.
As a freelance software tester, I executed functional and usability testing for web and mobile apps, documented defects with JIRA, and collaborated with global teams to meet tight deadlines. In AI training, I evaluated and ranked model outputs, authored conversational training data, and crafted prompts to improve LLM reasoning and instruction following.
On a 4-person project team I developed administrative features in Java, handled access control and user registration, and used Git with pull requests while practicing Scrum. I also serve as a student mentor at the University of Sydney, guiding first-year engineering cohorts and earning ENGO Peer Mentor Service Awards for two consecutive semesters.
I bring a methodical, collaborative approach to software development and quality assurance, with skills across Python, Java, C, SQL, PostgreSQL, Git, JIRA, Figma, and Linux. I am motivated to contribute to teams where I can grow technically and help deliver reliable, user-centered software.
