I work on the part of payments where approximately right is the same as wrong. I build payments backends at Mindbody: the money math, the retry semantics, and the metrics that tell us whether a charge actually succeeded.
Three years across two payments squads have taken me from single-time checkout (cards and ~10 alternative payment methods behind Stripe) to recurring payments and reliability, and now to platform currency infrastructure. My current focus is multi-decimal currency support: teaching a platform that assumed two decimals everywhere, from a hard-coded ×100 conversion to 2-decimal rounding scattered across 20+ services, to treat precision and rounding method as per-currency configuration while flag-off behavior stays byte-identical to legacy.
Work I'd point to:
▸ Currency correctness. Rewrote point-of-sale and refund money math to be currency-aware across Classic ASP, C#, and generated SQL, including banker's rounding built from ABS/FLOOR/CEILING/SIGN primitives because SQL Server has no native round-half-to-even. Root-caused a ±1 minor-unit partial-refund drift to per-column independent rounding and drove it to an explicit product decision.
▸ Retry safety. After a duplicate-charge incident, initiated the Stripe conversation that corrected our idempotency and retry model, then shipped idempotency keys on every retry across all four direct-debit rails (SEPA, BECS, BACS, ACSS), with idempotency-conflict errors logged and alerted in New Relic.
▸ Trustworthy metrics. Designed the Snowflake queries reconciling Stripe-side and Mindbody-side recurring success rates, which corrected reported rates overstated by an estimated 5–9 percentage points and exposed missing payment logging in key recurring flows.
▸ Compliance. Led an FTC auto-renewal email compliance initiative end to end with Legal, Product, and Design, and later built the per-contract disclosure pipeline for purchase receipts, where I also fixed the legacy check that mis-disclosed mixed orders.
Beyond the code: created and ran our on-call onboarding for a team of 12, mentored two QAs into backend contributors, and authored 8 formal design and analysis docs.

▸ Mentored the squad's 2 QAs into backend contributors; ran on-call onboarding for a team of 12.
